insert usb-c usb drive, copy the file there, then plug it into the other laptop and copy it from the drive to the laptop

Are you doing Desktop to Laptop; Laptop to Laptop type of scenario?
If that is the case, the best and easy option is connect them to the same local network, drag and drop files on one system into its Public Folder. Allow File & Folder Sharing on both machines. Then on the other machine, view the PC with the files via Windows/File Explorer > Network and then copy the files from the other PC and paste them into a folder on the local PC.

Even easier is to use a USB/C flash drive and just copy to it then transfer to laptop. Plus now you have a backup of that file you moved.

i would also give an USB-stick a try. maybe with an usb-a to usb-c adapter(cable). this network stuff is not that easy. copy and paste via usb-stick is very easy.
external usb, if its like terabytes then take hdd out of laptop stick it in usb encosure and plug it into other laptop

It is probably best to copy the files over the network instead by creating a shared folder.

You're probably right, but the networking/setting it up might not be worth it.

super easy
grab cx explorer on android and find the share on network, copy and paste

All you do is enable sharing. The Public folder for sharing files is already there. Doesn't get much easier.

if both your desktop and laptop are connected to your internet router, then you should easily be able to send w/e file you want to the laptop.
