Both are good, steam deck has the better community and support while ROG is technically the better system right now (it's newer go figure) and it's running windows.

Both will eat battery life, but the ROG will drain faster, ROG also has a better screen and refresh rate.

Personally i would go for a deck, but only because i think the ROG ally looks child-ish and more like a toy, especially with the RGB.

You couldalso go for a homebrew switch, depends if you want to use the thing as an actual PC aswell or not.

Honebrew switch? What is that?

ROG has the better screen and more powerful hardware. You can achieve higher fps with the Ally. It's has Windows and will play games that are incompatible with the Linux based Steam Deck. I prefer the feel of some buttons on the Ally, but the sticks seem too feather light for me. So that's kind of a wash, but overall I think the Deck feels more premium.

The Steam Deck does have the two trackpads and two additional buttons on the back. In terms of what you can do from a controls perpective, it opens up more possibilities. Basically any game that requires mouse and keyboard inputs or precision aiming, the Deck is superior. The trackpads and touch capacitive joysticks that enable gyro make a big difference. The trackpads can also be configured as touch or radial menus which allows for more hotkey inputs. It has 4 buttons on the back as opposed to 2 on the Ally.

User interface I think is more streamlined on the Deck. It feels more like a console experience to me.

So I guess it comes down to whichever you prefer. More power, better screen, and access to more games, the Ally has the advantage. It's best for games with full controller support.

But a lot of PC games don't have full controller support. If it's a game where you have to move a mouse cursor or aim a gun, or press a lot of hotkeys, the Steam Deck is the one to get.

I guess there is no one right answer, it's more about the games you play and what you prioritize.

Great feed back!
I guess its the Steam deck as the type of games i will play will be RTS games like warhammer total war 3 games and like that. Thats a great post.

Thank you.
SMACH Z. Who else remembers that handheld? It got hyped it up so high and they got away with the funded raised Money.

Don't hijack and derail threads with something irrelevant to the topic.

The ROG Ally is more powerful overall, and since it's running Windows you won't have to worry about running into any compatibility issues. It also comes in at a premium price compared to the Deck though, and it has an issue with roasting SD cards, so that's something to be aware of. There also are no touch pads, which are amazing for playing mouse-centric games on the go like RTS titles and such.

The Steam Deck is a Linux based system. It enjoys extremely good community support, a tailor made interface makes it nicer to navigate, and it's more efficient at lower TDP, so you'll enjoy better performance and more battery life on less demanding games.

Ultimately, you should look at which games you want to play and whether or not they work well on the Deck or not. The Deck will play thousands and thousands of games just fine, and that number just keeps growing, but it won't play every game. If you are really into multiplayer, some devs refuse to enable support for their anti-cheat, so that's something to be aware of. If you get a Deck expecting to be able to play Destiny 2 and Fortnite, you're gonna have a bad time. Check out Steam's own Deck Verified system, ProtonDB[www.protondb.com], and Youtube to ensure that what you would like to play will work on the Deck.

Basically, if the games you want to play will work on the Deck, you'll have a better experience with those games on the Deck. If those games won't work on the Deck, they'll work on the Ally, just be prepared to fight with a desktop OS shoehorned into a handheld.

Another great comment, cheers.
Yes i was aware of the SD card issue which the review i read said it started happening after an update.

My main game will be like RTS type games so the steam deck sort of swings it but i also like being able to have zero issues with games.

Its a hard decision.

Steam Deck doesn't have the controls backwards.

And the OS is much more optimized.

Opimized on the ROG you mean?

No, on the SteamDeck, SteamOS 3.0, a Linux based OS was made by Valve specially for the SteamDeck.

There is no specially modified Windows on the ROG Ally.

But that limits me on games?

Have you checked if that even affects you?
