I'm telling you now, it's not logical to buy a lower resolution monitor just because your current GPU can't handle your current one at ultra settings, when the monitors you're looking at cost almost as much as a GPU that can handle 1440p 60Hz+.
Literally just buy a 2060-Super or RX 5700 XT.
2060-Super[www.newegg.com]
RX 5700 XT[www.newegg.com]
They cost the same as the ASUS monitor and not much more than the LG. The 1070 won't even get anywhere near 144 FPS without dropping settings to their lowest in newer titles, so there's no point.
The specific monitor I gave my brother was TN and has one annoying issue. Overall not a bad monitor, and I don't really mind taking it back if he gets himself the right monitor, but I'm trying to save costs as I downgrade - which I don't mind.
Right now I've got nothing; using a typical 60Hz monitor.
I suppose it's something to consider, but I never had a bigger monitor than the standard 24 inch ones.
As the time passes, Newer games always becomes more demanding, Because graphics department is improving each year. VERY VERY STRANGE AND SURPRISING.
That's right, and that's why I'd rather save costs and get me a proper 1080p gaming monitor.
...You're literally going to spend the same amount that it would take to get a 2060-Super or 5700 XT, on just a monitor.
If you want to save money, literally just drop your settings and don't buy anything.
1440p 60 is still more appealing. This isn't a necessity, it's a want; you don't need to waste money on an expensive 1080p monitor with a refresh the 1070 can't handle at ultra when a better GPU for the same price will run 1440p 60 easily.
If I'm going to upgrade my GPU, I'd rather upgrade the whole computer which isn't going to happen in the next few years. That's why investing on a proper monitor, despite its resolution, is better in the long run. It's not going to be my permanent either, but it's always good to hold on to a quality monitor.
1080p is suitable for upto 24 inch size. I agree with Escorve. You can just buy a $350 GPU such as ''RTX 2060 Super'' and keep your 1440p monitor while getting 60+ fps Max setting in all games for now.
You are spending $350 anyway. So why play on 1080p, when you can get 1440p 60+ fps?
You can also sell your GTX 1070 for $150 in that route.
It's a bit pricey, sure, but that's already a better replacement to my brothers' so I can just my old monitor back.
PS: I never said monitor give FPS.
You literally did say that.
Why can't you just listen to people telling you to do the sensible thing and just buy a graphics card that can actually handle 1440p ultra with 60 FPS, like a 5700XT?
There's no sense in focusing on high refresh monitors when you're never going to make full use of it with a 1070, unless you drop settings to maximise FPS, though if your CPU can't pull 144+ in a game, it won't matter how low you go anyway.
CPU/GPU should always come before the monitor because it only harbours the result of the hardware it's connected to.
