Does OC Scanner in MSI Afterburner work?
Using it for my GTX 1050 on my laptop. I did the scan and it was done but I didn't see any changes in the menu for it so did it OC my 1050?

OC scanner does work, but it doesn't usually find an OC as good as doing it manually.

Laptop GPUs also have less OC headroom that was set by the manufacturer.

Also my game keeps crashing with no errors is it bc of the Afterburner?

Could be anything, but if you reset it to stock settings and it stops crashing then it was unstable

What game? And yeah, if it didnt crash before the OC its probably the OC.

I would look into Undervolting instead. I got a nice bump in performance on my gaming laptop.

OC Scanner is meant to run a test to see if your gpu is artifacting at all.

Some games also might crash simply due to having the OSD features active.

I've been looking into that but I don't know how to do it properly and cant find anyone with a GTX 1050M chart for it.

Game is Modern Warfare on Blizzard. Its probably the new update but I just started playing the game so I'm not sure.

its never a good idea to overclock a laptop built in gpu if it gets too hot yes they can fry

laptop gpu's run , yes in many cases slower then the desktop versions as they have less pixel and vertex shaders available and less room to cool the chips

lower your settings or buy a better desktop system graphic card that has more airflow

and yes a GTX 1050 is still only an entry level GPU at best ..as even a desktop GTX 960 that came out years ago matches or bests it in many benchmarks

Yeah ik the risk on overclocking on a laptop but what if its just a small overclock it would still be bad?
Bad 💀 Motha 16 MAR 2020 a las 12:35 p. m.
Then why bother, it won't even help the performance by a realistic margin worth doing, but it will raise the heat output.

Im interested in undervolting my GPU but in not sure how to adjust every point to the correct spot.
Bad 💀 Motha 16 MAR 2020 a las 12:49 p. m.
Just leave the gpu alone. While MSI Afterburner + RTSS are still very useful on a laptop, changing the voltage or clocks on mobile gpu really shouldn't be needed. It wont allow you to do very much, especially given its only a 1050 rather then something higher.

But under-volting the cpu should help as this is what usually will be what overheats.

You can monitor both cpu and gpu temps in MSI AB

Alright I'll leave the GPU alone and I am actually doing the undervolt for my CPU right now actually.
Bad 💀 Motha 16 MAR 2020 a las 4:36 p. m.
Once you undervolt, ensure laptop is plugged in, power options in Windows is set to high performance... then do some stress tests to see if it still gets too hot and throttles.

Prime95 + Furmark is probably too much for many laptops, so instead test with Unigine Heaven, extreme preset, just change it so it's not full screen (there is a toggle box) then select the native screen resolution. Have CPUID HWMONITOR running before hand so you can monitor cpu/gpu temps.
