Can missing textures be a sign of GPU faliure?
I was playing MW2 earlier and when I was in pre game lobby the character textures on my operator went missing so all that was left was a hat, eyes and teeth. Is this a sign GPU could be failing, i'm asking because I'm unsure if I got heat damage the other day?

Is the game on a HDD or SSD?

Verify the game in Steam to ensure will files are intact.

Also make a habit of wiping the temp file junk and gpu cache in Windows; Settings > System > Storage > Temp Files of C Drive > select all and delete all, except for Downloads which is your personal user downloads folder contents.
Most likely a sign of lag .

Sounds like avg buggy game problem to me

Seems like a game issue, but what’s with the heat damage

I use a software called ICUE that controls my are RBG, fan speeds and monitors temps. Sometimes the main fans (not GPU) get stuck at a certain RPM which is a low speed which means that my CPU gets a little hotter than average. I was playing a game at the time so there would have been some excess heat, GPU was cooling fine but I had to reset my computer in order for ICUE to behave and go the correct fan speeds.

In doing this the excess heat left behind I believe may have did something to the GPU because when I logged back in there were pixels on the desktop. After resetting the computer again they seemed to have disappeared. But this made me paranoid so I seen an artifact on Red dead redemption 2 which had a blob of black pixels expand in a cutscene just for a second then after that game was running fine. I hoped that was just a game issue as well but that is why I have been a bit paranoid.

Thanks dude, I will have a look into this.

or slow drive, or corrupted file
verify game cache, and check the games forums

If it just one game having the issue, then either rendering issue such as slow drive, or corrupted files for game that need to be replace/repaired. There few games that have crap rendering, or made poorly which can't do anything about it if that the case as just game issue.

Now if you're seeing issue across multiple games then this may mean bad driver install/update, or failing GPU which may also notice like PC shutting off without warning, or freezing, and then shutdown, or blue screen with error then likely a falling GPU.

I would suggest cranking up cpu and gpu fans before launching a game. That's how I handle things since the days of WinXP. If some how leaving them on auto becomes a problem

I think the gpu is fine but let us know if it happens in other games
MWII can be iffy at times

Run a couple good GPU related benchmarks.
Games can always have those sorts of random issues, especially Online Games.
A one off with one game? Yes, I'd suspect is was just that, a one off, until I saw it happen again. A missing texture is one thing. I've seen silly results in Minecraft with shaders from nVidia's drivers breaking them a lot and it's not a sign of bad hardware.

Usually you'll see more severe corruption, like strange polygonal shapes from vertices and such being calculated wrong, and you'll see it more often than just once, if it's actually a hardware issue.
