Win 11, Admin access required for steam games on external drive
Hello,

So, as I primarily have a HDD, I often use an SSD for playing games. One of the most grinding issues that I'm having is that I need to apply admin privileges to steam in order to play/install despite having full permissions on my standard user account applied to that drive and folder on the security tab.

I know this is a an extremely minor issue but I was wondering if someone had found a means around it or if there are any ideas on what can be done about it.

I have no issues whatsoever read/write permissions via file explorer. I do not use a Admin windows account as a means of security.

Thanks!

You answered your own question.

" I do not use a Admin windows account as a means of security."

add your user to the administrator group and turn of UAC

Are you saying you log into Windows on a Limited Account?
I don't understand. You can't change anything when you use a system on a Limited Account; like WTF does this? That's for when you want to allow kids or guests to get on your PC. To which yes you must go on the account that has admin access and set programs like Steam.exe properties to Run As Admin For All Users. Otherwise things like game clients or games are not going to work properly when using a Limited User Account.

Are we just now learning this? Cmon folks.

Have you tried the repair function in Steam Storage Manager? That should fix up file permissions.

Note that on a first launch it is normal to require admin privileges to install required components.

Try this. Within Steam, Navigate to Settings> Downloads>Clear Cache. I've never cleared the download Cache before this and it worked
