a linux kernel
not the linux
linux is not something that is done by one group of people with a bunch of flavors
this
https://distrowatch.com/
is a site that has a list of distros
it lets you know who makes them and a lot of other good info
I was talking about Linux Kernel. The same kernel that powers Android and a whole bunch of other things. Not the GNU/Linux distributions that people use on their desktops.
Additionally to the other comments here I'd suggest to read the following:
https://lunduke.substack.com/p/microsofts-growing-control-of-linux
so, i knew about
and hated
github
i knew that they bought seats at the expos and stuff
it blows that they are sticking their hands into it
but that is one of the prices of free opensource
i guess i am just a little confused about the kernel being taken/funded by ms
are we saying that ms is now injecting their windows into linux?
or just that their money is making its way into it?
I assume their plan is to keep Linux usable but never as convenient as Windows. Also, one should alwas look out for privacy intrusions. Wouldn't be the first time: https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2012/10/privacy-ubuntu-1210-amazon-ads-and-data-leaks
no doubt
keep the confusion up and scare people from using it
and that amazon bit kept me from using ubuntu for my first linux trial
glad it did, because it helped me learn enough to try several distros
with so many dedicated linux lovers, though,
i just do not see ms being able to control all of them
if they were ever to somehow get control at a level that i might as well get windows
i can only hope those that were passionate enough to make an alternate to it will work on
something else
