ALLOW WIN 7 USERS TO KEEP USING STEAM
How about you give a little control to your users instead of forcing stupid updates onto them? I haven't gotten a single virus on windows 7 since they stopped supporting it so don't give the "security update" excuse you always do. The only reason I used a dual-boot system for Windows 10 was to play Forza Horizon 4 which is a property of Microsoft. Or at the VERY LEAST allow the user to use older versions of steam! I know it sounds CRAZY that you'd allow the user to do such an awful thing but trust me, it'd be really good!

i am curious what it is you mean by this

i know they are supporting the use of linux and open source, but how are they

funding

linux?

linux distros are not all connected and created by the same people and i am having trouble

understanding what it is you mean

As far as I know MS has employed some devs to develop the Linux kernel.

a linux kernel

not the linux

linux is not something that is done by one group of people with a bunch of flavors

this

https://distrowatch.com/

is a site that has a list of distros

it lets you know who makes them and a lot of other good info

I was talking about Linux Kernel. The same kernel that powers Android and a whole bunch of other things. Not the GNU/Linux distributions that people use on their desktops.
its sad that you have to ask permission to play the games you bought on the os you bought it on

...and Linux is also partially being funded by M$. The option to "downgrade" (actually upgrade) MUST always remain a possibility.

Additionally to the other comments here I'd suggest to read the following:
https://lunduke.substack.com/p/microsofts-growing-control-of-linux

Prominent Linux Contributors
It has recently come out that the creator of systemd (Lennart Poettering — who also created Pulse Audio), has begun working for Microsoft.

And this is hardly the first Linux developer to join Microsoft (either as part of an acquisition, like GitHub, or otherwise). Nor is this likely to be the last Linux developer to join up… as Microsoft currently has 645 open Linux related positions.

Want to control a piece of technology? Find the people working on said technology… and put them on your payroll. Does this give you nearly total control over that technology?

Yes. Yes, it does.

Microsoft controls: The largest open source code hosting on Earth, a large portion of Linux conferences, The Linux Foundation, the Open Source Initiative, and prominent Linux developers.

What next?
Well. If we’re simply being practical and objective… Microsoft seems to have achieved the “Embrace” and “Extend” portion of the old “Embrace. Extend. Extinguish.” business plan.

I’ll leave deducing what comes next as an exercise for the reader.

so, i knew about

and hated

github

i knew that they bought seats at the expos and stuff

it blows that they are sticking their hands into it

but that is one of the prices of free opensource

i guess i am just a little confused about the kernel being taken/funded by ms

are we saying that ms is now injecting their windows into linux?

or just that their money is making its way into it?

I assume their plan is to keep Linux usable but never as convenient as Windows. Also, one should alwas look out for privacy intrusions. Wouldn't be the first time: https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2012/10/privacy-ubuntu-1210-amazon-ads-and-data-leaks

no doubt

keep the confusion up and scare people from using it

and that amazon bit kept me from using ubuntu for my first linux trial

glad it did, because it helped me learn enough to try several distros

with so many dedicated linux lovers, though,

i just do not see ms being able to control all of them

if they were ever to somehow get control at a level that i might as well get windows

i can only hope those that were passionate enough to make an alternate to it will work on

something else
