Are AMD Graphics Cards good?
They don't have CUDA cores. Can they still run the latest games? VR? Blender?
If you have an AMD card would you recommend them?

I can’t tell anything about work and VR but I’m very positively surprised about my first AMD GPU for regular gaming. Great performance, software and stability. No horrors like you can sometimes read about online. I’ve also recently learnt about Nvidia CPU drivers overhead. That means that nvidia drivers put extra load on CPU and in newest games that are CPU heavy AMD cards can perform better than way more expensive nvidia cards. Especially if your CPU is not 7800x3D/13900K and you want to upgrade just the GPU without building the whole PC.

They're ok. Not great. Drivers can suck, and some older games don't launch or work right.

Nvidia is still the best option even if you're on a budget.

Wrong.

I run things at UW 2k

Runs everything just fine.

I'm starting to believe the AMD drivers stories. I am getting a series of like 5 pop-up windows along with the "something's happening" Windows "ding" sound because of vcredistributables .dll files missing over and over when trying to open the Adrenaline software.

I'll be clear, I have lately had the computer go to/comeback from Windows sleep mode, so I'm sure that's a possible culprit and a re-boot might fix it, but fact of the matter is Nvidia's control panel is working perfectly fine. Also, I haven't installed or uninstalled anything lately and nothing else is complaining about missing files.

I'm leaning back to Nvidia lately, because of that along with the whole AMD am5 "exploding cpu" thing.

Not trying to come off as an Nvidia stockholder or anything, I'm just saying.

I mean, it is true. AMD is the way to go to get similar performance over all, at a lower cost.

Friend was looking to update their 2060 super, I asked them their budget. They stated a hard limit which they felt was their max, so I did some research. For their budget, a 6960XT was best, but lucked out and found some 7900XT for cheaper than the former high end 6950XT. So, had them get a 7900XT.

AMD always been about saving moola for GPU's. They've always been known as, poor to launch, aging like fine wine, but a good deal either way.

You only need nvidia if you enjoy ray tracing at the high end gaming. Or, if you plan to actually use the GPU for workloads.

So, you pay less for AMD for similar performance, less powerful ray tracing since inception, or pay more for better ray tracing and work loads.
I don't think those who'd gotten their RTX 3070 series cards share your sentiment, after just 2-3 short years, their cards are only good for 1080P Max graphics setting (with RT enabled depending on the game and how much more VRAM RT takes) or 1440P at Low-Med, perhaps High but without RT, with RT, definitely have to reduce ingame graphics setting, for newer games that is. My RX 7900 XTX is doing fine with RT, it's about RTX 3080 Ti level, so it's no slouch.

As I'd said before, just like 8GB was the was just good enough for gaming 3 years back when the RTX 3070 series was released, nVidia is doing the same for the RTX 4070 series (especially for the more powerful RTX 4070 Ti), 12GB is barely enough for now, but would not age well over the next 1-2 years with games being released that are chewing up VRAM. Heck, I was surprised to see Doom Eternal hitting 11+GB at 3840x1080, Ultra Nightmare + RT....already TPU site has shown some newer games are exceeding 12GB at certain setting + res, But as long as RT isn't enabled, exceeding the VRAM buffer up to a certain point is okay, but once that barrier is exceeded, or with RT enabled.....performance either tank, or crash.
your throwing out things he never spoke of he clearly mentioned the 4080 which in what he said falls 100% true.seeing as that didnt fit your narrative you choose to bring up lesser cards to fit.who's simping now ?

I have no gripe with AMD GPU's, but they can be finicky and even AMD says never to update the software if the card is stable as is (same with MAC's).

The issue with AMD GPU is that the cards are fierce, but they do not update with the developers unlike Nvidia. AMD GPU's are hardcore if you know how to use them properly.

Some can also have issues with clock timings, but that fix is simply to readjust the clock timings manually. Boost clock seems to be an issue on some newer Vegas.

The AMD GPU is a monster in many ways over the Nvidia, but Nvidia may have a more user friendly interface. I do know Nvidia does updates with certain major developers and some larger indie studios to make the games run smoother - that is basically where Nvidia will shine over AMD.

If you are not needing your hand-held, go with AMD. If you are a creator (game development, music, etc...) go with Nvidia.

Is this real and true? I mean did they actually say this????????? Is this like actually referenced somewhere on an official site or something of theirs?

I don't think you're lying, but if this is true then AMD cards really just aren't for me. I personally like to be on the newest drivers and with Nvidia, that's never been a problem for me (even though I know others say it's an issue for them.).

Contrary to what some users have posted in this thread, Radeon regularly updates their drivers for the newest games, with game-ready drivers usually available day of release.

I recall Radeon did say this in the context of, "Here's a game-ready driver for X game, but if your current driver works well and you don't plan on playing X game right now don't bother updating." This is because Radeon game-ready drivers are usually released as a driver beta. The updates / improvements for X game will be included in the next WHQL driver anyway. If all you're after is a stable experience on last-gen or older Radeon gpus it's usually better to stick to the WHQL drivers. (If you're running a current-gen Radeon gpu, then it's usually better to run the beta drivers because you'll get performance fixes as they become available.)

Of course Nvidia fanboys took this and spread misinformation that "AMD said don't update your drivers!" Complete nonsense.

Ok, this makes sense and reasonable unlike AMD going "don't update your drivers! you've been warned!!!" kind of thing. It it was like that, it would have made my life easier by just saying NOPE to AMD but since the way you put it is a little more realistic and undersandable I can still consider both (even though, I'll probably be considering GPU's for another year or two like I did with my CPU upgrade).

Every time I see someone post something like that, I am interested in the games also. Almost like the Windows 7 users saying they can't play games on Windows 10 but I haven't seen too many elaborating.

He might be for real, but when they don't explain any further it really gets the noggin joggin.
