What is a safe temperature for an I5-12600KF?

Wondering what is a safe temperature for an I512600KF as I was gaming earlier and my main fans were not gaining speed which meant that is went as high as 60-65 degrees C? Also would the risidual heat from turning off pc damage CPU?

between 90-100 your cpu will thermal throttle and everything below that is safe

Max is 100°C, but I like to go lower around saying max is 90 - 95°C

I rather lower say 60 - 65°C like the AMD's, but Intel runs hotter. Around the temps you say is great on-load.  :p

I believe, unless I am out of the loop, 60 - 65/70°C is proper for every machine, but can we include laptops in this discussion?

Motherboards for the last 10-15 years have a fail-safe in the BIOS to prevent CPU damage from an actual overheat scenario. Firstly it will thermal throttle the CPU at a certain temp (depends on cpu model) when this occurs the cpu is auto down-clocked as a means to naturally lower the cpu temps. If for some reason the temp continues to rise to around 100-105*C the bios will trigger a system shut off.

You can often set this warning and shut off temp in the bios as well.

Thank you all for the replys, had a little bit of a panic attack when the fans were not doing their job, the highest I would expect my cpu to go is about 50 so when it got higher I panicked. To show my appreciation everyone will be awarded with some steam points to say thank you.

check the fan settings in bios
set them to off at 50-60c and max at 80c
