Windows 11 on older Intels and repurposing old hardware?
Just wondering if anyone has gone ahead with Windows 11 installation on older Intels as I'm trying to decide what to do with my 6700K and 3770K setups that has been collecting dust. Was thinking to repurpose one as a very small itx setup that I can give away to be used for basic stuff connected to a TV and the other one I was thinking to sell or keep with a windows or linux dual boot setup but in both situations there life is sadly limited by the windows 10 support ending in about 2-3 years I suppose so any recommendations, has anyone tried W11 install bypass for old cpus any issues?

i tried it on my amd laptop and worked but linux has your back and your pc will be current for 10 more years at least
Thanks for the reply, will try windows 11 on them first and see what happens. Kinda sad nothing before 8th gen is officially supported and no updates if you do the bypass even though I'm guessing the people who say they are getting updates currently will get a bricked OS at some point with an update which would be crazy, hopefully it won't lock you out of the system completely..
No, too many people have already moved to 11 with their unsupported hardware. Even Microsoft itself explains how to bypass its own restrictions.

At most, the updates will stop. And there hasn't been word about that happening (yet).

no more buggy updates for w10 would be such a tragedy lol... personally i just care about w11 if im not able to play new games anymore...

If all you care about is gaming then why would you ever consider Win11. Win10 is more stable overall. Nothing new in Win11 to aid gamers.
Windows 11 is the same Windows 10 and it is using the same kernel yet, so all drivers and programs should work and be supported, even if the OS is discontinued.

Even still, Win11 has a ton of bugs and doesn't play well with a ton of Games.
While Win10 22H2 is very stable overall and should be more preferred for Gamers until Win11 actually gets its sh*t straightened out and not be such a bug-filled BETA OS.
Can try just linux. There's a variety of linux installs. i7-3770k can probably run the internet and stuff for a long time. Can still game ok but is showing it's age.

Yea if you really worried about what MS might do or change regarding unsupported hardware for Win11, then don't use it. It's that simple.

Use Win10 64bit 22H2 or use a gaming friendly Linux distro.

By the time Win10 is no longer relevant, it'll be time for a new build and time to start using Win12

Well you also have to worry about steam and other software you use.

We talk about recycling and stuff but are forced to throw away old computers so companies have more profit selling new PC's/hardware.
Xeon E3-1230 v2 with Pop!_OS here.
Launch date Q2`12
It has it`s limits but as long it works it will stay on system.
edit: It is paired with external gpu.... This Xeon does not have igpu.

Ah the good old i7-3770k.
CPU/motherboard/memory replaced about 4 years ago.
I was then a freenas/truenas server for a while.
Bought a cheap i7-3770 to replace as part of home server. - for vt-d support.
Then it was a proxmox server for a bit.
Also that replaced bu updated hardware.
So my i7-3770k is is a machine for media playback with a gt 1030 in there.
Also a backup machine using old hard drives in a raidz setup, through network share.
It has ubuntu linux.

The i7-3770 is now unused.

As for old intel i7 k versions, they are OK for general use machines, but a hobbled by not having hardware pass-through (vt-d, IOMMU).

So for a old non gaming machine, would suggest linux for efficiency.

It can, bit the onboard video is terrible. It was terrible when it was released in 2012. A low end GPU would be an good idea to go with it.
