"Vulkan Device Lost"
what does that error message mean? I get that message when a game crashes.

That usually means the videodriver crashed taking the game with it.

if it only happens with 1 game, at one specific part in the game?
Then it's reproducible, and whatever the game is trying to do is crashing the drivers (which could be the driver itself, or the graphics card being unstable during the situation that is being asked of it). It might even be the game itself.

it's reproducible with great accuracy. same place in-game it always crashes.

now, i should mention that the game ONLY crashes like that when I have Ray Tracing Reflections enabled. Without Ray tracing enabled, the game does not crash.

what's going? is it the game? or my card?
i bet its a card defect at that spot like a capacitor or whatevere that the game is specifically having the card try to do

no other game using ray tracing crashes. just this one game.
id try a reinstall of game maybe
Well game A isn't game B, which isn't game C. And game C in one moment isn't game C in another moment.

You've seen this first hand. It crashes consistently in that certain condition.

It's easy to try and reason that "it runs fine here, but not here" or that "it runs fine in more demanding things" as some sort of reasoning that it shouldn't be a problem. Yet if it's misbehaving, there clearly is some problem.

Hardware specifications and the game in question (and spot it crashes at) might help.

i5 13600kf
rtx 3070ti
Wolfenstein: Youngblood (crashes at first boss, everytime, and its not an isolated incident. many ppl with cards ranging from 3060-3080 have reported the crash at same spot)

Verify the game cache. Could just be a small file within a large game file that is corrupted.

already done. multiple times. no dice.

Then just disable RT in that one game.

that's how i play, without Ray Tracing Reflections and everything set at Max (or Uber as Wolfenstein likes to call it) Settings. Beat the game already.

but i would love to solve this issue, as youngblood is beautiful with Ray Tracing on.

YoungBlood was basically abandoned after launch. The Ray Tracing most likely has bugs they never fixed and just tossed that feature in as an after-thought.

i understand that the 'vulkan device lost" crash could be because of poor ray tracing implementation by the devs. the devs indeed introduced ray tracing via a patch, as it wasn't included at launch.

but, there must be a workaround.
