Do I need above Cat6 Ethernet Cables?
Hello,

I am getting fiber soon at 60mbps download speeds. I need to purchase a 30+ ft length of ethernet cable for between the modem and router.

I would get Cat8 cable, but its very expensive and I believe it would be overkill for my current speeds (gbps vs 60 mbps???)

However, I am still hesitant because I am unsure if lower frequency cable would hurt my connection (I don't know if my 60mbps has a high frequency or not).

TLDR: Cat6 good enough for 60mbps or go Cat8 cable?

Maximum length

When used for 10/100/1000BASE-T, the maximum allowed length of a Cat 6 cable is 100 meters (328 ft). This consists of 90 meters (295 ft) of solid horizontal cabling between the patch panel and the wall jack, plus 5 meters (16 ft) of stranded patch cable between each jack and the attached device.[13] For 10GBASE-T, an unshielded Cat 6 cable should not exceed 55 meters and a Cat 6A cable should not exceed 100 meters.

TLDR: its good enough

Thanks bros, I like a little confirmation before choosing. Cat6 it is.

5e is good for gigabit at 100m/330ft at gigabit speeds

6a is better for poe or faster, 2.5g to 10g

if you are making permanent run in walls, use 6a or better to futureproof some

patch cables, can go cheap, cat 3 can work at gigabit speeds to around 10ft

Well, I do need a router since the modem the fiber company provides is just a modem. I need a router for wifi and my PC hookup.

I don't even think I'll ever get to the gigabit stage tbh, but cat6 is inexpensive enough

dont worry about interference in wired lines
if it connects at gigabit its good, if its only connecting at 100mb then it needs better wire, or new ends
