16GB RAM vs 32GB RAM
Hey, I have been wondering for a while and I was thinking about buying 2 more 8GB ram sticks so my PC has total of 32GB RAM.

I would like to ask you, is the +16GB worth it ?

I have seen few benchmarks and fps wise it doesn't really seem like anything changes at all, except for some games. Does it also affect anything else than fps ? like stutters, lag spikes and these kinds of annoying things ?

I would like to play the newest and very hardware hungry games on as high settings as possible like: Hogwarts Legacy, Red Dead Redemption 2, Dead Space Remake, RE4 Remake, Starfield, Lords of the Fallen, etc.

Some of these games do have minimum RAM requirements same as the recommended RAM requirements.

Starfield min = 16GB, rec = 16GB
Dead Space Remake min = 16GB, rec = 16GB

Wil the performance increase in these types of games which list 16GB as minimum as well as recommended ? or will the performance stay identical no matter the RAM capacity ?

Thanks!

Ram helps your computer to run faster, just remember it will also produce more heat.

RAM is cheap. If you can, go with 2x 16GB since many games now will easily use 12-20GB at some point during gameplay.

32GB is better than 16GB.
Of course it is, but I want to know if it's necessary for the newest games, if it boosts my FPS or decrease stuttering or lag spikes or stuff like that, I will go for it, but if the difference is close to none, I don't think it's gonna be worth it.

4x8GB is better though by looking at benchmark... I already have 2x8GB in my PC so I would just rather buy second 2x8GB kit instead of buying 2x16GB. The question is if it makes a big difference, especially with the hardware overkill games like Starfield or Lords of the Fallen.

:saint:
this is so wrong
more ram only helps if you need more than what you have
as for heat, ~10w dimm is nothing compared to what the cpu or gpu produce

faster ram will help with specific tasks
when using an igpu, fast ram makes a huge difference
for gaming, its very little difference

More heat means that I will have to do something about it or am I good to go with just buying the RAM and connecting it ?

My current PC temps seem to be fine so it should be okay.
If you're concerned about your mem consumption, keep looking at Task Manager or have your amt. of memory in-use factored into an onscreen display while you're in-game. For example, if you run RivaTuner Statistics Server + HWiNOF64, you can make the %mem in use easily via the Settings gear in HWiNFO.

Windows has stuff running in the background at any given time so you can turn off many background apps via Settings spp/Privacy/Background apps. If you turn these off, , they will still open just fine.

Of course, if you like to use mem for other things like a RAMdisk, 32 GB is an outstanding amt. to have. Trust me! :steamhappy:

To answer your question: if increasing the amt. of mem, the performance should stay the SAME unless you were maxing it out and running into page-file.. If Intel, do you have xmp enabled right now? Then you would notice a difference for the better if going from 2133mHz to say: 3200mHz.
FYI, my current RAM are Kingston HyperX Predator, 16GB (2x8GB), 3333MHz CL16 and I want to buy another kit like this.

It's set to D.O.C.P and it's set at 3333MHz...

In case anybody being surprised, 3333MHz after some reserach is perfectly fine, if the motherboard can handle that kind of frequency, I don't have to set it to something like 3200MHz, having 3333MHz seems to me that I only gain rather than lose.

Just in case because I have seen many people shocked that I have my RAM set to 3333MHz...

How is it wrong exactly?. Because wherever you look on the internet, it clearly states that RAM can improve computer speeds (had to check after that fallacy).

more ram itself will not make a pc run any faster, unless you actually need more ram
and ram does not make enough heat for any difference in anywhere

if anything, 4 dims is more load on the cpus imc
which may not hit higher speeds with 4 dimms vs 2

I'd recently upgraded both my rigs to 2x 16GB system RAM simply because prices of DDR4 RAM are pretty low, but there'll come a time when supply dries up and prices will go up. Besides, with games chewing up VRAM, perhaps 16GB of system RAM would soon be supplanted by 32GB or higher.

You alr watched the benchmark videos, what else do you want ppl to answer?

You can't see stutters or any other stuff similar to that, I have had a lot of problem with stutters and lag spikes in games so I was also asking if that might help in running the games better.

It's also a question to which I want to know the answer to because the games are getting more and more hardware hungry and 16GB might soon be like 8GB few years ago.

This particular RAM brand and the exact model is very difficult to get here, it's basically impossible, only one shop is selling it and they also only have 1 in stock. I just want to know if it's worth upgrading to in terms of future and like I said, if increasing the RAM capacity can make the games run more smoothly.

I have only seen benchmarks with much different hardware than mine so that is also another thing.

Thats what 1% .1% results are for and they're usually included in benchmark videos.

Most ppl here dont even have 2computers side by side to make a proper judgement

I saw that the 1% and 0.1% frame rate was a bit better in the games, but I don't really know what that means tbh lol

Those people might have upgraded from 16GB to 32GB so they will know if it runs better now or not.
