You probably should install Linux alongside Windows...
TLDR: Some games run better under Linux regardless even if using Proton, The Outer Worlds is one of them.

After some initial issues with installation because my B550 Extreme 4 Bios needs CSM enabled to enable UEFI after I had it turned off to use resizable bar, I could install Manjaro alongside Windows 11.

What prompted me to do this was buying the game known as The Outer Worlds, this game stutters horrendously on Windows and my AMD system.

I run a 5800X3D

32GB 3666 CL15 memory

RX 7900 XT

I went a couple of days getting replies like oh I bet your system RAM is not stable, to user error to workarounds that never fixed anything.

So I decided to take things into my own hands and try Linux. it did not take long for me to find out I could install Windows games using Proton compatibility, I coped the files from the Windows directory to my new Manjaro one and Steam picked up all files ready to play. Loaded my game up.

At the same point after pressing continue I had the same framerate as I did in Windows 11 but the 7900 XT was overclocked and with SAM enabled in Windows, I enabled Vsync because my card was ramping up liek heck with massive framerates.

Played for 20 mins, not a single stutter, 165FPS solid and no drops at 1440P...

I am lost for words at the night and day difference and am very impressed.

Other than Office, I don’t know what windows has going for it anymore.

I played Outer Worlds on Win10 back at release and had no problems with it.

I can still download it on Game Pass but I'm just gonna chalk it up to something on your PC caused the issue. I have beefier hardware now so it'll most likely have no issues at all. There is also this where I don't see any topics complaining about stutter at this moment in their forum section. If it was caused by Win10 which is where the majority is on it would have spawned a lot of topics about it.

Also while you can only list 1 game that ran better for you I've seen far more threads over the years of people asking for support for Linux in game forums.

Linux still isn't a user friendly OS and if something is not working you will either have to spend time trying to fix it which will most likely happen more because Linux still can't run all games that Windows can't.

The Steam Deck can run about 5000 games out of Steams maybe 50 000 game list.

TLDR: That is why I said install them both so you can switch between them.

Also literally just google The Outer Wilds stutter, tonnes of threads on it.

Manjaro is easy to use.

I'd rather spend that time fixing it on Windows, besides that if I bought a game that eas supposed to work on Windows and didn't I'd just get a refund.

Sorry, i edited my post just as you responded I think. But yeah, good for you if you like it. If it was a game I really really really wanted to play but couldn't, maybe.

I never expected such a massive difference, but it's huge.. it may not be for all games but for that one... crazy.

Is Linux good?

Yes and no.

It's ok for gaming, but the games don't run like in Windows. More frequent crashes, but performs better in multitasking. For some reason on Debian and Mint when I use Oracle VMs they just randomly crash from resizing the window even if Auto-resize Guest Display is disabled.

It is still a work in progress, so l am going back to a tweaked Windows. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Downloaded the game. Ran fine without any problems. Windows 11 is not the cause of it. Something on your PC caused it.

As for Manjaro being easy. To get started yes but the moment programs doesn't work it's no longer that easy.

Also I wouldn't mix two different Operative system that shares the same files. Something is going to conflict with the other at some point.
"my ram isn't stable enough for windows or even gaming in windows"

The weirdest freaking ram I've ever seen. I would never set my ram to that. No wonder you stutter in windows.

5300x3d isn't meant to overclock. You will only achieve an unstable pc.

None of this makes any sense; you have one the fastest gaming processors out and you decide to try some overclock? Wow, and on the top that the configuration is so bizarre. You're also unstable.

I just don't understand where Linux becomes significant here. It's like you're trying to imply that windows is a stuttering mess and Linux is smooth as silk and can overclock and it's all BS!

"You probably should install Linux" << ♥♥♥♥ No!

To be fair… where does op say his ram isn’t stable enough to run windows or that he’s overclocking a 5300x3d?

It might be there, but I can’t see it.

Did you mean 5300x3d or is this a typo?

Was this a typo too? Is there really a 5300x3d out?

It was a typo when I put ‘his cpu’, but I made an edit.

3666MHz RAM is impossible to achieve unless you change the BCLK clock. Max multiplier of 45 X 101.6MHz = boost clock of 4575MHz. Overclocked with ≈100MHz.
