Games not starting on Linux Mint (nativ games start very well)

Euro Truck Simulator 2 runs fine but Remnant 2 get kicked back to Play-button, is not starting yet.

Linux 5.15 is a very old kernel, it released a few months before your GPU did, and thus has very poor support for it. Update to a newer kernel.

For Mesa you are running version 23.0?

Out of the box Linux Mint only provides the LTS kernel, it is still receiving updates but no new functionality.

Do be careful, updating kernels is slightly risky.

Mesa is what implements graphics APIs like OpenGL and Vulkan for your hardware.

If you launch Steam via the command line does it spit out anything interesting when launching a game? You can launch it by just running "steam".

i found this. he/she get it solved by moving the installfolder. i try this out and repeat soon

also not working. i used a different SSD and freshinstalled a game into but still not running.

Ubunto for gaming= yes
manjarno for gaming= yes
nobara for gaming= yes
mint for gaming=not rly but steam only works via flatpack very well on mint!

tomorrow i will download another distro and test it. im sad about mint because its a real good looking distro and makes fun to work with.

i will uninstall steam and re install it via flatpack. the first install was installed via comandline, mybe this is the issue. i take a look

It’s difficult for me to read the readout fully but the overlay was certainly mentioned a few times. Maybe try disabling it? I’ve had a few games where the overlay simply won’t work so maybe there can be an issue with that to some degree or another.

I’d also be trying various versions of proton.

Kernel… I’ve always been years behind and never been left short for it.., I think I’m using 5.14 atm. Always been fine with steam.

it works now. i just uninstalled the not working steam via sudo apt remove steam and searched the flatpack-version of steam, installed it and now i can play all games.

so on mint, do not install it via sudo apt install steam! install the flatpack-version!
