scared of installing cpu

Hello, so in the future, i will probably build my first pc. Im gonna be installing the amd cpu(the one with the pins on the CPU). I know youre supposed to like drop it into the socket, but im scared, that just missing the holes and simply draging it a little to the holes will bend it.

Make sure to match the cutoff corner and you will be fine. And don't lube the pins with thermal paste as some people have done :p

Wear gloves! Skin oil is bad for the CPU. If you do touch it barehanded, remember to swab it with iso alcohol. Oh, and pick the CPU up on the sides - Do NOT touch the pins!

P.S. also do NOT force the lockdown mechanism if the board has one.

Thermal paste goes on the top in a thin layer, 100% coverage - again use gloves!

You don't drop it into the hole, you place it there. Lay it on the socket and if it hasn't fallen in the pins aren't lined up in which case no big deal just shift it around until it falls in.

If you gently put the CPU on the socket the right way it will simply sink in. 0 pressure. The holes are much bigger than the pins.
I was in the same situation just few years ago with a very expensive at that time Ryzen 3950.

I've built several PC's for myself, family, and friends over the past decade. It used to be very nerve racking to install CPU's, but lately AMD and Intel both have made it pretty fool proof. I still make sure to read everything that comes with the CPU and the motherboard and I will even watch a video or 2 on the installation process.
Like mentioned above, this is actually a very simple process, you can do it with no problem.

you should watch some PC found in junk yard restory videos, they are pretty cool, and shows you that even something sititng in the rain for months or years will still work, that literally you almost have to smash the CPU with a hammer now a days to break it,

you are much more likely to break a small soder component on your mother board then you are to hurt your Cpu by simply handling it.

If you'er ever had a CPU show up out-of-the-box with bent pins then you'd know those little bits of gold are not invincible. In fact, the thermal heat from your hands is enough to bend them and cause the CPU to not fit on the board that's why there are tools created specifically to prevent them being touched by human hands during installation.

If you don't know what you're doing and/or have doubts it's far better to trust your expensive investment to a local certified, experienced, trained IT professional and give them some business (as we can all use some extra lately). There's nothing worse than having to spend thousands of dollars to replace any or all of the parts (or hire a different contractor) when the job isn't completed to your satisfaction the first time.
