scared of installing cpu
Hello, so in the future, i will probably build my first pc. Im gonna be installing the amd cpu(the one with the pins on the CPU). I know youre supposed to like drop it into the socket, but im scared, that just missing the holes and simply draging it a little to the holes will bend it.

Remember to wear an anti stat wrist band, cpu pins are pretty strong.

You don`t need to push them in, Ryzens really just drop in there. They have little triangle in one CPU corner and in corner of the socket so you know you use the right orientation.
As long you just don`t drop the CPU on the floor or something the pins wont bend that easily.

Look at 5:17, im scared that moving the cpu a little bit will bend the pins.

Being scared is not going to help you and pointless to be. Whenever I install a CPU I'll literally triple check the orientation of the CPU to the socket and you just lay it in, your not going sideways your just going straight down onto the socket. If a corner doesn't go in then pull out and try again your not pushing sideways your not forcing it into the socket none of that. Just do it gently keep your hand close to the socket don't try to drop it from 1 metre into the socket and you'll be fine.

Also do it like this guy, install it on the motherboard before you put that in the case and look from the side that it goes in nice and flush in the video at 3:20 is the angle you should take everytime when installing: https://youtu.be/1m80GXqA8oE

If the position is right it will literally just drop in at its own weight, there is no need to wiggle it in one direction or another.

its ok to be scared, but i have never used a anti wristband, just simply touch the computer case or something to discharge yourself when your working and you won't have any static, unless your walking dragging your feet around on carpet its not a problem, usally i work on my pc in the basement concrete or kitchen where there is no static.

all you have to do it line up the arrow toward each other an gently set the CPU into the socket, there is no pushing it will just fall right in, if its pins or just smooth connections it doesn't matter, you just gently set it on the cpu socket.

then close the latch and it will set itself into place, its one of the basic simplest things to do on a pc, its actually easier then pushing ram into the sockets which sometimes require a little force. or a GPU card.

always make sure your place a smooth layer of thermal compound on top of you cpu and add your heat sink, there are several options to latch them down , screw them down to secure them.

have faith in yourself is the biggest advice i can give you. once you are confident you will find it easy as breathing.

You don't drop it into the hole, you place it there. Lay it on the socket and if it hasn't fallen in the pins aren't lined up in which case no big deal just shift it around until it falls in.

If you gently put the CPU on the socket the right way it will simply sink in. 0 pressure. The holes are much bigger than the pins.
I was in the same situation just few years ago with a very expensive at that time Ryzen 3950.

The CPU and Socket both have |> arrow in one corner, align that, have the socket opened all the way and align the CPU and it'll drop down into place. Then close the socket. It's not hard at all. Just that when you handle anything such as the CPU, Motherboard, RAM, GPU... handle them securely by the edges. Do not tough any Gold contacts or Pins.

I chneged my CPU for the first time in my life a few weeks ago (i3 9100f -> i7 8700k).There's nothing to worry about.CPU and socket pins aren't too easy to break

beyond static

you almost have to go out of your way to do any lasting damage

i have a bunch just lying around that i am waiting to put to use

one day, i swear :pcbs_case:

even a bent pin can be fixed

watch a couple vids

make sure that all the parts you get are compatible

and you will be good

dont be scared, you'll lose motivation to do it (like my recent monitor upgrade which i nearly lost motivation to do but i then decided to just do it)

also, if you know basic metal work with literally anything thin, you can easily bend it back, just make sure you don't grab a knife and start bending all the pins like that one kid on youtube, you'll be fine as its easier for a meteor to fall on your head than to bend a pin accidentally

I wouldn't want him to get comfortable with bending cpu pins at all unless he's at a point where he has enough hardware lying around that he can consider a cpu "disposable".

It is true that it's easy to bend the pins back and forth, but it's just as easy to end up breaking it off while doing that.

Every time you bend it, basically be readu for it to break off. At least that's how I see it.
