3rd party controller detected as xbox 360 so i cant use gyro controlls please help ;D
Recently bought this controller. A Vader 2 pro. was really excited to try to play some games with gyro controlls but steam is detecting it as a generic Xbox 360 game pad so in the overlay option theres nothing to click on about gyro. i played around enabling /disabling different inputs, looked all around the internet and steam. cant find anything to fix this seemingly simple issue?
link to controller incase that matters

any help would greatly help me. i tried for hours to figure this out myself but there doesnt seem to be alot of information out there on this kind of thing, a few steam fourums with solutions but those dont seem possible with the new steam controller ui?

Gyro in general is broken right now. I use an 8bitdo Pro+ controller on Nintendo Switch Mode, and Gyro worked fine with it before the Big Update that Broke Everything. Now, activating Gyro causes so many input errors and gyro doesn't work, even with games that natively have gyro support like Paladins.

I hate to say it but find a way to revert to the old Steam UI or wait for Valve to fix these gyro issues.
oh darn, thats a bummer. well ty for reply. ill look to see if thats possible atm.
as for the detection issue i did find this old post im going to try to work through it later, its kinda complicated though.

so for anyone having a similar issue i followed this uses detailed steps.
Hi, I thought I'd do a write-up for this. I was able to use the instructions above to get full functionality (gyro, vibration, correct axis input on both sticks) off the Switch Pro Controller Clone (Xenoblade version) I bought from AliExpress. Anyway, I hope this helps someone.

1. Pair your 3rd Party Switch Pro Controller to your Windows 10 PC via Bluetooth.
2. Start Steam and let Steam recognize the controller.
3. Exit Steam.
4. Navigate to your Steam folder on your computer.
5. Within your Steam folder, go to the logs folder and open controller.txt (open with notepad or something similar).
6. CTRL+F and search for what windows calls your controller (Windows recognizes my controller as "Wireless Gamepad").
7. Look for the type. This will get you your VID and PID for your 3rd Party controller. Mine was 057e and 2006.
8. Go back to your main Steam folder on your PC and now go into the config folder.
9. Open config.vdf file with notepad.
10. Scroll all the way down to the bottom and add the following line before the last }: "controller_hid_switch_pro" "0x057E 0x2006,"
11. Save config.vdf file.
12. Open Steam and test controller to see if it has full functionality. If it works, you're done.

If not, exit Steam.

13. Open config.vdf file with notepad again.
14. Scroll all the way down to the bottom and add the following line before the last }: "controller_hid_switch_input_only" "0x057E 0x2006,"
15. Save config.vdf file.
16. Open Steam and test controller to see if input is working (not full functionality). If it works, you're done.

however within the controller.txt file all i could find was these numbers
Controller has an Invalid or missing unit serial number, setting to '45e-2ff-5863148b'
and this thing here
type: 045e 02ff
path: sdl://2
serial_number: - 0
i tried following the instructions but im stuck. i guess im going to just return this controller to amazon, its a shame im so disappointed i really wanted to use this cool controller to its full potential
still though anyone else having controller 3rd party detection issues do follow those steps above they may work for you!

also ask in steam controller forum

If you hadn't already, see if you can connect it via Bluetooth then it may operate as a Switch controller. Looks like wired & via the adapter the controller operates as an Xbox device on PC.
Maybe need to hold + and X buttons for 3 sec to put the controller into Switch mode for BT??? not sure what the instructions on the Amazon page are referring to there...
https://www.amazon.com/Multi-Platform-Controller-Vibration-Compatible-Nintendo-Switch/dp/B09LCYB48V/

But also if I'm getting things right, you'd want to use their software which allows you to set what activates the motion sensor and what it outputs as (left or right stick)

So I'm thinking if it can't operate as a Switch on PC, then it's an Xbox controller + motion sensing that is internal only (???) (i.e. no motion sensor data is transmitted, it's converted to left or right stick and that is output to the PC)

In the Steam Controller forum if you post a link to the correct controller and ask if they can support it, they can buy it and check if gyro info is actually accessible or not.
