Charging laptop Via Adaptor: USB-C to AC?
I have 20,000mAh battery bank for my phone. It can supposedly charge a tablet twice. A Smart phone several times. I suspect I can get an 60-80% charge for a basic laptop.

Battery output is 5v, 3A/ 5v, 1.8A.

It's a Dell 13 3000, (it does not have USB charging)
These are the laptop power adaptor spec (if they're relevant)
https://ibb.co/LNKPtkS

The adaptor is something like this

The cables adaptors are DC but the original Dell charger is AC? Is that just a difference between power from sockets Vs batteries?

Any tips? My knowledge on power is null.

5V 3A, which is 15 watts, is not enough to charge a laptop (At least at any reasonable speed). Typical USB-C laptop chargers are 65 watts.

Even Laptops that charge only through USB Type C are usually 40-50 watts minimum.

If the Laptop does not exclusively use USB as the means of charging (some lileightweight HP and DELL laptops do allow it) then you can't charge the laptop battery via laptops USB port anyways

Ok, that settles it. Thanks!

The battery banks has USB-C output. I use adaptor to plug it into the laptop's DC Jack socket (not usb).

But again, the battery bank max output is way too low. The laptop would most likely not charge properly or it would drain its battery faster then the battery bank could even charge it given the 15 watts output limit

Didn't the laptop need 12 volts? If so, these 5 volts are not enough.

most laptop chargers are 19v

the laptop charge port should have a boost circuit to bring it up to the battery charge voltage
at cost of current, wattage stays the same, most ~90% efficient
5v3a = 15w
15w x90% / 19v = .7a
would be a very slow charge rate even if the laptop is off

So if I plugged it in once I turn on my laptop at any% battery, would it at least prolong the battery life? As long as it simply works or helps. I'll take that any day if it doesn't harm either component.

slow charge is good to prolong the life of the battery
1 hour to full charge is generally a good rate

recommended charger is 45-65w
15w is about 1/4 of what it should have

Right, so it would turn 4 hour battery life into 5, right?

maybe

first make sure the laptop can charge from 5v on its charge port
most laptops wont even try

20mah is a very small pack, even for charging a phone

5k-10k mah is much better, 2000+ mah per 18650 cell is normal for phone charge packs
3 cell pack should be around 6000mah
2000 mah (2ah) x 3.7v = 7.4wh per cell

Sorry, it's a 20,000mAh (20k*)

That adapter is for power delivery, meaning for charging of AT LEAST 45w or so which is where the 45w-65w battery charging spec comes in.

Laptop charging at 5v shouldnt even be possible because the charging circuit wont even activate at such a low voltage.

All Chargers are AC to DC with the laptop and the batteries themselves using DC
All phones also use AC to DC for charging
Desktop PCs themselves use AC to 12v DC

AC to DC power supplies/chargers take the AC from the wall and convert it to what the devices and batteries require which is DC.

For that power bank to be able to charge a laptop it would have to be Power Delivery rated with voltages of 16v to 20v, something your power bank is not designed for or even meant to do.

So while that adapter is capable of power delivery for charging a laptop the power bank itself is not.

With that said
Attempting to connect a 5v only power bank to a laptop could potentially damage the power bank OR the laptop, so attempting to do so is not recommended.

a Power Bank capable of charging a laptop would be similar to this for example
https://www.amazon.com/imuto-26800mAh-Delivery-Portable-Compatible/dp/B0B19FMWGF/

or these as far as good brands go https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Charger-PowerCore-Portable-Delivery/dp/B07XRJZXKY/

https://www.amazon.com/Anker-PowerCore-Portable-Delivery-A1291-dp-B089D4176K/

You can probably tell the differences between those and the one you have.

Very comprehensive. Thanks a lot. I get it now.
