My OS is cloned and updated so I can restore any time I want to an updated and perfectly configured OS.
I purposely have my stuff saved to drives/partitions OFF my local drive so when I restore it doesn't get wiped.
Other than that I got a bunch of stuff stored locally that isn't backed up at all but easily detached/re-attached to my PC for isolation purposes.
only because i have accidentally erased a back up in the past
i only connect them when i am adding to them
i also have several smaller drives that have portions of what are on those
I really do need to think about an offsite backup but I just hate cloud storage, i've been burned more than once by it
I usually forget to put them in the fireproof lockbox, though.
I tend to back up the Firefox and Thunderbird profile folders, and use Keepass2. Though obviously, I don't keep the keepass archive and key file on the same device.
Has Lastpass cleaned up its act already?
For passwords, I put them on Notepad and store them offline. I use the password generator of
1Password.
Yeah, I'm wondering the same thing I personally jumped ship to Bitwarden.
First off F the Cloud. It's not reliable and it could be stolen at any time by anyone.
Have a drive in your system with the data, have that data on a backup HDD then put into a fire proof safe. And then another HDD copy of that data maybe in a safe-deposit box at the bank or something similar. If the later part of this is not possible then have this 3rd hdd in a fireproof safe at some trusted off-site location.
If the data is important it should never get backed up onto ANY Online source of any kind, period.
My bank was recently hit by the cl0p ransomware operators who did not hack the bank directly but exploited a vulnerability in a file sharing service that leaked my Visa card details.
Luckily the matter resolved in a short time with no damage. But I am aware my security measures played no role in that whatsoever.
It's not much but hardly any of my stuff dies... well not in the last 15 years, i think i sell stuff before it gets too old.
I use BItwarden ( paid version, who can't afford $10 a yr for a great program ? ) after unpleasant experiences with Lastpass, as for backups I use TerabyteUnlimited for imaging (and a boot manager) onto multiple external HD's
Hmmm, I'm not sure honestly. I mainly use it for convenience. If they have been in the news lately for something I haven't noticed. They might be the worst of the bunch security wise but I just got really used to it.
You haven't? It was all over the place, even into mainstream media.
