Thought undervolting was supposed to lower temps on a rtx 3070

I've always tried to do huge overclocks, but the returns have been getting lower with each generation of cards so I started to try and undervolt to lower my temps, but the lower I drop the voltage (and it's still stable in benchmarks) the higher my temps go. How is that possible?

i seen a mini fridge for 70 dollars today, you can't even buy a decent AIO liquid cooler rad for that price. i was tempted to buy it just to put a liquid cool radiator inside the freezer part an mount the PC board to the outside of the mini fridge, then use the whole thing has a chiller to offset the liquid cool tempatures.

someone said the compressior would run non stop, but im sure it would last as long as the computer would stay relivant, and plus you could store your drinks in it while you game.

This is false as long has you don't undervolt it by too much it won't cause any problems at all, unlike overclocking.

It is not possible to undervolting without crash a computer, unless it is closer to outside of the normal operating voltage but still within while lower voltage. My GPU doesn't allow me to go under 0.9 mV.

Well there's something wrong with your gpu then because mines completely fine

Unless it is inverter compressor, it will pump faster and slower based on ambient temperature. Standard compressors will run and stop, and so forth.

Also, I do not recommend messing with the fridge because EPA policies are very strict.

There is nothing wrong with my GPU. I can go lower as 900 mV. As I said, it is not possible to go undervolting to 500 mV or whatever your software limited lower voltage without crash your PC. 800 mV on your GPU is not undervolting.

How much are you undervolting by. Are you using msi afterburner or a different program. As a reference you can look at mine.

3080 using Superposition 1080p extreme:

Ya your temperatures will not change at all if your making very small adjustments like that. Put it to .850mV then you will see changes. Just remember if you decrease your voltage too low the gpu will get unstable, so you also should decrease your clock speed as well. A decrease of 100 MHz will not effect performance at all, like what I did with my 1st undervolt.

Well I was able to undervolt/lower the voltage to .850mV without making it unstable.

That is within normal operating voltage. Manufacturers will never write 1.2 volts as normal operating voltage, except 1.0 - 1.4 volts in specification. But that is private information customer I think.

Nvidia GPUs tend to just apply extra voltage regardless, it does what BIOS is programmed to do, to inhibit that you have to make a curve that keeps it at a reasonable (but slightly lower than top) frequency. What you’re actually doing when you “undervolt” them now is find a more modest frequency that it can easily run with the target voltage consistently, rather than trying to run factory OC or higher clocks with less voltage.

Example: If it most often uses 950mv and gets around 1800 MHz with that, then that’s around the range you’d aim for to start, and then maybe try to squeeze out as much power that you can with that voltage.

If you go too low on voltage, the GPU will just push for more voltage.

Yeah, I have a custom fan curve, and it's pretty aggressive too. Once I hit 70c it kicks up to 90% fan speed which is not quiet. So I actually came across that thread and read it before I posted this. What bothers me is that some people who replied stated they went from 70c average which is what I'm getting at stock down to mid to low 60's even at 925mv. I'm at 900mv and still hitting over 70c. I'm not even doing a memory overclock either. One guy actually has the exact same card I do and he's dropping from 70c to 61c at 850mv with a 1k memory overclock. I guess I can try dropping down to 850mv, but the fact I can't get below my stock temp even with -180mv is concerning

I can try to go lower, but more than one guy from that reddit thread said he had a 3070 that went from 70c stock voltage to maxing 65c at 900mv. I get 70c at stock voltage so based on other people's results, I should theoretically get reduction at least somewhat, not go up.
