I personally noticed a lot of a difference between 85hz and 60hz
these will appear 'smooth' as their timings will be the same
1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 9, 12, 16, 18, 24, 36, 48, 72, 144
if you set it to 120hz, better for video since they are 30/60fps
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, 15, 20, 24, 30, 40, 60 120
Yes some panels have many refresh rate options, but not all do.
So if you don't have a 120Hz option, then don't lock in 60 FPS. However don't go and switch to 60Hz on a 144Hz panel either. It will basically defeat the purpose of buying the better refresh panel to begin with.
Its one reason I prefer NVIDIA though, it has a much better and easier means to set all this up.
AMD on the other hand; LOL
But you can always use something like RivaTuner to do it.
The difference between them is roughly around 7-10% at best in typical rasterisation.
If the 5700 XT will struggle then it's very likely the 6600 XT will too...
would be the ideal monitor and will keep your fps at a higher level.and not all monitors
are created equally when it comes to running allot below there native fps(say on a 144hz
monitor running at 60fps some will have a stutter to them)absolutely get one with freesync of
any kind.so look for reviews and do your homework before you pull the trigger on one..good luck
What I mean by bad experience is.
I have tried 85hz oc on my monitor for a while and I had to turn it back to 60hz because it caused issues.
Now I feel that 60hz/fps feels Soo much more laggy.
And I thought once I upgrade to 144hz soon. The experience will become so much worse when I play story mode games around that limit 60-80.

I bought this last year and it's a pretty nice screen. Might be more than you want to pay. But I doubt you'd be crying over it coming from 720/900p and 60hz.
A monitor with Freesync or G-sync can dynamically adjust the refresh rate so vsync no longer needs to lock to a integer division of the refresh rate, it simply caps the FPS at the monitor maximum refresh rate, as such you get a smooth tear free experience whilst maintaining maximum FPS, I should add that this only works in the refresh rate range of the monitor such as 48 to 144Hz which is obviously a problem if you're getting less than 48 FPS.
This problem is solved by Low Framerate Compensation which inserts an additional duplicate frame allowing it to work below the monitor refresh rate, for freesync this is half the minimum refresh rate so down to 24 FPS for a minimum 48 Hz monitor, g-sync also support this but only for monitors with a minimum refresh rate of 30Hz.
Since freesync is the most cost effective that's probably what you'll want, fressync premium supports LFC, premium pro adds HDR and some other stuff, there is also g-sync compatible which most freesync monitors are, I assume this has the same limitations as freesync but frankly it's a bit confusing.
TL;DR, it's best to have a monitor supporting Freesync Premium (or Premium Pro) or G-Sync.
No 60Hz Display OC's very well.
You having a bad experience in this regard is natural.
The fix is stop buying 60Hz screens; period.
RTINGS is a good site for all kinds of reviews, especially monitors as it can be pretty overwhelming trying to find a good monitor when everything looks the freaking same.
Doubt it. I have 3 monitors, two of them 60hz. I tried overclocking once and got like 63hz…
Yeah. That's a solution.
But doesn't change the fact that 80fps will also feel ♥♥♥♥ once I get a 144hz
