It can potentially block games that lack digital signatures, if SmartScreen doesn't recognize them.

If your system is in Evaluation mode instead of On, then most likely using Steam will cause it to determine that it is not appropriate for your usage scanario.

Here is kind of a long thread but SAC is discussed in great detail, and is started by a software developer who happened to create a security software I've been using for several years now.

In a nutshell: it's VERY promising but is still not ready for widespread, mainstream use as it's relying on AI and that is still evolving itself.

I run Windows 11 Insiders beta and I did not enable this as I have several third party software that would be overkill. I looked it up and it seems during Evaluation Mode, the decision to be a "good candidate" for Smart App Control is not made by the user but by Microsoft. Whoa! :tf2scream:

Edit: aha, it seems Microsoft has approved of you, OP. :)

i turned it ON, i didnt wait for the evaluation mode.

is this going to be OK? because i want all my steam games to work and not get blocked, so FAR steam/cyber/deathloop hasn't been blocked after i enabled it.
"smart app" ... "for Windows." x'D

Who knows if it's going to be OK, no one can read into the future. This is the purpose of "evaluation mode" anyway, to study your system and estimate any behaviors over time.

I have a similar software but it's third party--it takes a system snapshot and has an AI component.

In theory, it's a great layer of security. But it's not foolproof--the software I use occasionally gives me false positives, esp. during installation of novel software. The difference, though, is that I can whitelist, or in more annoying cases, disable it temporarily.

Once you turn off Smart App Control, that's it, it seems. You;ll have to clean-install Windows (edit) in order to get it back on.
.
That alone might be a turn-off to many and can't say as I blame them.
