Infected Files

So I was playing PCBS2 with Avast One (the free version) open, and it detected the .exe as infected with an IDP.Generic. I'm not sure if it's a false positive, but I was wondering if there was a way to check the whole computer down to the core, so any viruses on the computer don't have a chance to hide?

I could have none, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

It may be a false positive. First verify your game files to ensure it hasn't been corrupted by some external malware, then if it comes up clean by Steam report it to the AV vendor:

You can submit the file to VirusTotal. VT will allow you to browse to the game's executable.

You can scan with the free Malwarebytes--seems to be the one coming to mind about now.

Just because something may have a low or 0 detection level doesn't mean it's safe. Look at Task Manager for any doubtful processes.

Of course keep in mind Task Manager, even with its fancy new Windows 11 UI, is an advanced tool that requires knowledge of the OS to interpret many of its components well. As its original developer describes too, Task Manager has sharp edges.

I never add my Steam folder to my Malwarebytes Premium ignore list and it never complains about my Steam games.
