Connecting old Xbox controller into PC

My friend recently gave me his old Xbox along with 6 wireless controllers. I was excited to check if I can use these controllers on my PC. It turns out from google search that I need adapter as the front connection is only for charging the controllers. My PC doesn't recognized this controller connector.

I checked ebay and only found 3rd party adapter. Not sure if I should buy them for $30-40 AUD.

Anyone here using any 3rd party adapter to connect old Xbox controller into your PC? How is your experience?

You haven't mentioned which Xbox controllers you have, is it Xbox 360 controller or
Xbox One?

the x360 controllers are not bt
the wired x360 are only usb
the wireless x360 are not usb, usb only charges
do not use 3rd party adapters, they rarely work, get a ms branded reciever

orig xbox you can get the usb adapter for the controller

xbone, only the newer ones are bt, easy to identify

If its an older xbox one controller getting an adapter is hard first gen xbox one controllers lacl bluetooth

Would be easier to just get a XBox one controller. Possibly even cheaper.

as far as i know the xbox 360 controller works fine for pc, in my case, and the xbox one controller doesnt. thats mainly it to me.
