and yes, That 12 GB is the other thing.. If they came out with a 4060 at 12 i wouldn't even think twice, but the bus means it needs to be 16GB.. Is there a 16GB 4060 with 125 draw coming, this generation has been so weird.
I really was hoping this was the one that i could finally get my other comp back running because i yanked it from the comp to use on this build with replacing it in the old comp eventually. The 3060 wouldn't give me enough performance and i don't really have many RT games right now so i basically just been waiting.
But all that aside, extra 80W draw, I never actually tested my comp to see what it draws an hour. I'm not exactly sure if the tester i have access to would work on a comp but i think it would go high enough seeing i think you can check a toaster oven and that pulls a lot.
instead of creating a 60 series that outclasses the last gen 80 series, they will rely on dlss and gimped memory bus to ensure nobody is allowed to play at higher resolutions in their respective tier.

And to be fair coming from like 2016 where a 1060 could have been had for 249, the new 299 price tag does not look too outrageous. Except its still 1080p and only 8 GB and only x8. And a 1060 was also listed as 120 Watts TDP. So except more frames and RTX not much has changed.
Honestly if this card just had more ram i wouldn't think twice.. I'd run it for the next 6-8 years with no question. Everything i play works on a 1060 at full graphics and good frames, aka 60-100 with no dipping. The thing is i know in the future i'd need a bit more and i'd like some ray-tracing when it comes on games i pick up. I know some games on my radar are just going to need more, especially something i'm going to pick up in a few years.
It's just that stupid 8Gb ram that is really making me second guess it, and i don't want that higher power draw on the 4070 12GB, which is actually the perfect card minus the power, and it's like 500 bucks too. Maybe we will be surprised and some niviida manufacturer will make a 16 GB version, at that speed/power i think it would fly off the shelves.
My Power supply would work with the 1070, nivida recommends 650 for even an overclocked card so it's not like it's some major power hog, but still. I dunno, i think i just might keep pushing this old card along another couple years and i'll bet the 5060 then will be exactly what i need going forward, but man is that a long time to wait, though perhaps starcitizen will be launching then so it will make sense!
I guess i could put up with my i5-3050, 8GB and a 360 a little longer and make due due but i've had crashing issues sense the card swap. Maybe i didn't get a clean driver install going from nivida to AMD, Perhaps a fresh install will clean things up.
I know,, it's like they did it just because they know it's not enough for the games coming in the near future, to get you to buy another card in a few years. They see how awesome the 1060 6Gb was and how well it survived the last 7 years or what ever. I got mine in 2018 and even then it had been out a bit because the prices spiked because of crypto i waited almost 2 years to pay exactly what the card was at launch.. I was kinda pissed about that, waiting that long to finish my PC build limping along on a 550 TI
I got mine (also still using it... for now...) late 2016 and I avoided the first cryptocurrency market issues. That happened a bit after the launch, so more in 2017 and maybe into 2018 I think.
Still it's been a long time and it's actually the longest and best any vid card i've ever had has held up going back to my first P1 system and adding another 2 years to that, it blows away the next closest which really was nothing but a bottleneck for the last few years i used it which made it even worse.. try playing an online pvp game at 20 FPS :(
just shut up and give him your money
