SSD Disappears when downloading from steam
As title states this has been an ongoing issues with my new Samsung 870 secondary drive. I've sent it into Samsung they verified drive is not faulty, I was skeptical so I ordered a brand new one from BestBuy that is doing the exact same thing.

When I attempt to download 40+ Gig game the download will start and once download reaches 10-15% steam will freeze and crash and the drive will disappear from explorer and disk management only way for it to reappear is to fully shutdown, When in the shut down process displays will be black but computer fans light and gpu will continue to run for 5-10 minutes until computer turns fully off. ( only an issues when SSD disappears). Last night I was able to successfully download a 40+ Gig game from game pass without issue.

Things I've tried:
Bios update
Cmos Reset
Sata cables
Power cables
Sata Drivers
repair steam folder
rename steam Lib folder
Samsung magician - No issues found
Crystal Disk info - to my knowledge no issues found

Computer specs:
b460m dsh3 v2
corsair 16 gb ram
invidia 3070Ti
i7 10700k
thermal take 850W psu
samsung 500Gb SSD < Primary drive no issues
samsung 1Tb evo 870 < problematic drive

EDIT: Ended up that my PSU was faulty

How much free space is on each drive? h
Have you tried disabling antivirus (I assume this won't help)?
How are your steam library folder settings looking like?
How is that drive formatted?
How exactly are they connected onto your motherboard as far as which sata ports they are each connected to?

by default shutdown uses hibernate/sleep, then wake instead of a clean boot

use restart to for a clean boot, or disable hibernate

1. Primary SSD 131Gb remaining
Secondary drive has nothing on it besides the game file i was able to download from Gamepass
2. I'm not aware of steam library folder settings i just created a folder via steam on the second drive
3.Drive is formatted in GPT
4. I've alternated all sata cables from ports 2-5 and it has no relation to the problem and still occurs

Do you have both of these gaming platforms (or two of any other gaming platforms) running at the same time? Have you tried only running Steam and shutting down the other ones?

Might be interfering software. I'd look into it. I wouldn't be surprised if you respond with "there is nothing else running on my pc" certainty, but I'd still look into it. A lot of people who say that aren't entirely correct.

steam -> settings -> downloads -> [library folders]
is it listed? you can make a new library for it there, and install games or move them to it

I do not only the primary application that I'm downloading from.

Yes it is listed there, I have attempted to transfer steam games from my primary drive to secondary drive ( faulty drive) and it will disappear.

Steam is installed on smaller SSD or you moved it to new one?

Someone on another thread with a similar problem posted something that makes a bit of sense. I know it might sound like it's out of context with this thread, but it might be appreciated still..

"A game running with user level privileges does not have the permissions required to detach storage. It's likely the other way around, your SSD drops and then the game crashes."

Possibly it is the SSD causing Steam to crash and not the other way around. I'm still researching even though you are pretty sure there's nothing wrong with the SSD.

Steam is installed on my primary smaller Samsung 500Gb SSD with 131Gb remaining

When you used Samsung Magician, did you check for firmware updates to that ssd? I'm not even sure if that's a thing but if it is I would want it updated.

If you changed the download location to that same 500 GB drive only for this game, does it still crash?

Anyone know if there is a SSD stress test to test stability of an ssd?
