Nvidia Driver 531.18 has broken the Control Panel.
Every time I shut down my PC, when I start it up again next time, the control panel won't open until I restart the Nvidia Container LS service. Nvidia needs to get their ♥♥♥♥ together with their drivers. The last one I had, 518.46, would cause random BSODs. Not even sure which driver is safe right now to use without problems. If I wanted constant driver issues, I'd have an AMD card.

Go back a version or 2 from the latest and Check with that. Stable for me, just keep forgetting to upgrade

It's true. Damn, Nvidia's drivers are busted. Drivers are no longer an advantage over AMD on Nvidia's part.

I read in the Reddit for the new driver that apparently it now opens by simply left clicking on the tray icon itself, as opposed to right clicking to open it in the menu. I haven't tried yet when it refuses to open in the menu, but I have noticed that left clicking on the tray icon itself will immediately open it. Used to be it would actually open GeForce Experience first.

Yes, right now I have v. 528.02 and the Control Panel is working as expected. You can check via msconfig/services if it's configured to start with Windows. Sometimes these settings are changed for some odd reason. Also, open Services.msc and check if the NVIDIA Container service is set to Automatic via right click/Properties.

But if it gets too annoying, you can try this driver--it's not too far off the latest.

I don't even have the tray icon now that I'm looking for it. I'm just going to try re-installing these drivers and see if it fixes anything.

Nevermind, I wasn't even on 531.18. Apparently I was on 517.48 and it was still messed up.

Well, I just updated drivers. It installed, I didn't re-boot but so far so good and I do have the control panel. Not sure if a re-boot will mess it up. I guess I can check but I know it won't help you.

Try re-installing the drivers but do a clean install?

The control panel is always there for me. The issue is that sometimes clicking on it doesn't do anything. It doesn't register as actually opening anything at all. Only after restarting the Nvidia Container Service LS does it actually register clicking on it. When I recently installed this one, I had already chosen to do it as a clean install. I wanted to get rid of any driver corruption from my previous driver.

Yeah, I know what you're saying. I had the same exact problem just now before I re-installed/updated drivers and that's why I thought I had the same exact driver version as you and same exact bug.

I would try to open control panel and it wasn't opening at all. I closed it in task manager and then I opening control panel would work but that's what it took.

Did you block it from the internet btw when you did the installation? I blocked it for the most part except for the nvidia update.exe one time and that was it. It's all blocked at this point though.
Not sure if that connection made the difference.

But I do have the same driver version (newest) and I am getting the control panel. Not sure if any other variables are causing the glitch though.

Security thing.

I know this is where someone might say "you don't trust Nvidia to connect, but you let them install stuff on your pc" kind of response.

Thanks. I was just curious, I have never seen the need to do that and wondered if maybe i was missing something.

What OS and build are you on? I just installed 531.18 without issue on Windows 11 Pro 22H2 22621.1265 and have no problem launching either Windows control panel or Nvidia control panel.

ey, stoppit. I am still using 461.09 and your making me feel old.

lol

The tray icon in v. 528.08 is visible and responsive (opens the CP immediately). If you're going to reinstall the NV driver, I would DDu it in safe mode.
