4080 FE PerfCap Reason - Vrel

4080 FE, latest drivers. Stock, no OC. Looking at stats in GPU-Z i see PerfCap Reason in blue as VRel. What does that mean? The card goes to 2805MHz on it's own and runs great, Board power is at 292W, so not even close to the 320W limit.

Why is this happening ?

Pull up a HW monitor and watch your 12v sag under load.

GPU is seeing 12v sag and holding itself back to keep from crashing the rig.

Get a better PSU to solve.

i have SF750 — 750 Watt 80 PLUS® Platinum - is that not a good one?
what HW monitor do i need to use? tried open HW monitor, but dont see 12V anywhere.

necroing this post to say that this is incorrect, and you don't need to drop $100 on a PSU. VRel does stand for Voltage Reliability, but it has nothing to do with having a bad PSU.

your GPU is limited by its manufacturer not to draw too much power from the motherboard. VRel means you're hitting the soft cap on that power limit, the highest voltage it can consistently hold while remaining stable. your GPU can temporarily go above the soft cap without exploding, but it tries to avoid doing so as much as possible, and there is a hard cap it will (basically) NEVER go over. if you hit the hard cap, GPU-Z will show it in the PerfCap box as VOp, or "Operating Voltage."

getting a better PSU will not "solve" having VRel pop up in GPU-Z. there's nothing going "wrong" that needs solving. everything is functioning as intended, your gpu is making sure it doesn't pull too much power and become unstable. if getting a better PSU increased your frames, congrats! ...but it wasn't related to this.

important note: THERE WILL ALWAYS BE SOMETHING IN THE PERFCAP BOX. VRel is honestly the best thing you can have in there when under load. if it consistently is saying Pwr, Thrm, or VOp, THEN you should be a little bit worried.

if you know what you're doing/don't mind voiding a few warranties, there are guides online for "undervolting" your gpu. it might help, it might not. i personally haven't bothered but i've heard from others that you can squeeze out a few extra frames.
