Low SSD Memory problems after Windows 11

My msi updated the standard cumulative from windows. Then my laptop started alerting me that the SSD was filled up to capacity. Note that I do not have any games installed at the moment. This also happened a few months ago, I followed some steps online and it seemed to have fixed the SSD disk usage problem (Task Manager; specific Services to Disable and so forth which are still in the settings.) Unfortunately it is not like I can follow the same steps and make specific settings again.

This problem happened when I updated from Windows 10 to 11.

Because of this I can not download any games.

The simplest thing to do is run "Disk Cleanup" to delete any unneeded files. I'm not sure if windows still creates the "Windows.old" folder when upgrading but if you aren't having problems with Windows 11 that is safe to delete as well you just will not be able to downgrade back to 10.

Use an application like space sniffer (with admin) to see what's taking up storage space.

first check windows.old and backup anything in there you need
then disk cleanup

In spite of deleting useless software, you're going to have this popping back up periodically, esp. after big updates.

A more permanent solution would be to replace the ssd in your laptop with one of a larger capacity.

I see zero info about PC Specs; such as your drive(s)

Even if you only had a 120GB ssd I can't see disk space being a problem unless you trying to install large games and this is your only storage device.

But yes start with...
Start menu > type DISK CLEANUP > click Run As Admin. Click each box and click OK to dump all that junk. When it is done, bring up Windows Explorer > right click THIS PC and click Properties. Go to System Restore and wipe all of that out.

Restart Windows and check free space on C Drive

Usually only see drive sizes that small on ChromeBooks and Tablets though.

10gb out of 454gb
msi dragon standard from 2021 or so.

Looking at the C: it says most of the space is in the Temporary Files.
I guess I'll try the disk cleanup.

That's the amt of free space left? 10GB? If so, this would also be slowing down the performance of the ssd--you want at least 10% free or 45 GB.

In addition to disk cleanup, you can check for bulk crap via a program like Tree Size. I use WinDirStat myself--these are free and safe to use provided you get it from the official sites.

You can also check and delete useless videos, and contents of LCU folder in C:\Windows\servicing.

I still suggest to get a larger ssd. If it can happen once, it can happen again.

Edit: oh you're on Windows 11. Forget LCU folder, that's in Wiondows 10

Fixed it.
I reset my laptop.

Treesize free from the microsoft store might have helped show what was using space up. Weird stuff happens sometimes. Just a fyi.

That's not really a fix and you also learned nothing in the process.

Now you need to download and install all latest drivers and all your apps.
