The new Steam Controller layout menu broke my Xbox One (Elite 2) controller settings

Has anyone else had this issue?

Not only is the new Big Picture "Controller Layout" absolutely terrible, but 90% of my games seem to completely ignore whatever I map to any button on my Xbox One Elite 2 Controller now.

I finally got stuff working with the old controller menu the way I wanted, and then they decide to change it for some dumb reason, to something that just looks terrible, and is very difficult to read.

It is insanely frustrating, because I have no idea what's wrong. Some games (like Euro Truck 2) still respect the controls I set for them, but other games, (No Man's Sky, Red Dead 2, etc.) completely ignore them, and I'm forced to use Xbox Accessories because of it.

What am I supposed to do about this?

each controller can have its own mapping for bpm/desktop/chord and each game

be sure to select the controller and map correctly and apply
