What is considered good DDR5 RAM?

I read things about timings and such but I really have no reference point to see what timings are good for it. I am probably going to build a pc soon with a ryzen 7700 was thinking about getting this stick of ram when the time comes. Still waiting for proper gpus to release though I need the efficiency but am defintely not going to pay this much for gpus. Neither motherboards.

This is what another dutch guy has gotten does not seem that expensive but I got no clue if it is good or not.

RAM speed (MHz) higher is better, and Timings (CL value 1st digit) lower is better.

So, your target should be to get high on SPEED but LOW on timings.

G.skill is usually a good memory brand, however, I'd certainly recommend getting either their Ripjaws or Trident variant of that kit. DDR5 6000 @ CL32 is pretty good, however, you should also keep in mind that "higher" frequency / MTs isn't always better especially with Ryzen. Ryzen 7000 is much better with this however. But I'd also recommend ensuring the memory you're looking at has been tested and validated for AMD EXPO, which afaik I don't think G.skill has validated any of their kits beyond DDR5 6000 for EXPO.

6000 / 32 = 187 not good enough
6000 / 30 = 200 good

You can search this--you will get varying opinions. The first brand that came to my mind was Teamgroup. But it seems Corsair, GSkill and Teamgroup have options. Kingston would be for if you have serious budget constraints.

any brand can pick cheaper ram chips, just make sure the kit/dimm you get has good specs

Well, I think I can tell you what "bad" DDR5 ram looks like. That free stuff they're giving away at Microcenter with Ryzen CPUs. I'd still take it for free, but I'd rather have a better quality set.

Reason I say they look bad is because (besides the fact that they're given away for free) in the reviews a folks who got that ram are saying in order for it to work at top rated speeds they had to increase voltage, some say it wouldn't boot, had to update bios, they go bad.

I'd take them for free but I'd be prepared for something to go wrong. I think I might even just wait for the price of Ryzen CPU's to go down and pay for real ram instead of taking this ram for free and then realize I got suckered.

This video makes me worried abt purchasing 6000++mhz ram. So many comments are talking abt how impossible it is to have stable performance with 6000mhz ram or faster

it's been a long time since I looked into it... but when I built my PC I put a good bit of time into researching ram brands and timings and whatnot and came to the conclusion that Gskill uses the same ram chips as the top brands and "faster ram" isn't really important in real world scenarios outside of a few things I don't really do (like encoding video and other graphics work I think?).

also my Gskill ram has lasted like 10+ years so far. :)

Would normally agree, but with AMD you really do want to try and get a speed that allows running the Infinity Fabric near its limits. This does have implications beyond what it does on Intel systems (for now, I wonder if this will change once Intel shifts from monolithic chips, as they soon will).

This if why for Zen 2/3 (Ryzen 3000/5000 series), you may have often saw 3,600 MHz was often recommended for them, as the Infinity Fabric would always do at least 1800 MHz, maybe a bit more. With Zen 4 (Ryzen 7000 series), apparently the Infinity Fabric is expected to do at least 3000 MHz, so for that you would want 6000 MHz (or MT/s, as the real speed is 3,000 MHz) RAM to pair with it.

makes zero sense kingston(renegade) costs same/more with the same or better specs/timings.
