Are Hisense TVs any good?
My old 720p TV is dying. It's over 10 years old, at least.

There is a 50" 4K Hisense TV on Amazon at around $250 with very high ratings which seems like an insane deal

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09WQJPWWY/?coliid=IJ0PJC8ACNU5O&colid=14RIXU8URSPQW&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

Opinions on the brand from those that own one?

I do NOT game on my TVs if that matters...

Don't own one so can't comment from experience. Know my dad wasn't keen on one he got but that was a few years back.

I tend to check rtings.com for info before I buy a TV. Gives you a nice break down here

I have two Hisense tvs. One is a 55 inch tv that is going on about 5 years I think and still no sign of going out and I've had that thing on for like 8-15 hours a day for every day I've had it. I plan on doing the same for the 65 inch I just replaced it with. Overall I'd say the typical default colors aren't as vibrant as Samsung (maybe even LG, but I haven't actually paid too much attention to those screens/panels). Hisense does objectively offer more HDMI inputs all around (typically 4 minimum per tv). But be advised the first 55 inch Hisense tv as soon as I occupied all four inputs with different devices the OS got slow as a snail for some reason. Had to be some kind of glitch. So that leads me to the software which is a little bit clunky. I haven't messed with enough LG/Samsungs to know if theirs are the same. I do love the "audio only" feature of Hisense tvs. I can leave the tv playing sound but turn the screen off.

The 65 inch I just bought also has a glitch. I discovered that in the menu the very first time I choose "audio only" it does not execute that function. I must go in and select "audio only" a second time in order for that function to execute. Kind of sucks but oh well, I'm not going to return it just for that. I have been checking for firmware updates and there are none so I have a feeling the issues you run into for the most part will stay that way until you are done using that tv years later. It's still decent for the price I got it for, $350 so it's still a great deal.

I do not let it connect to the internet except for the occasional firmware updates (hopefully for obvious reasons).

The first tv had HDR, but I'm not sure if I ever got it to execute properly on that tv. Supposedly it was on detects HDR video (and it may have been), but it didn't really look like it had that HDR premium coloring. Closest I did get though was using my pc to feed video to it as an extended display and then the colors did look much better with that config but I did it in such a way that the tv HDR wouldn't kick on and it must have been non-hdr video but still looked really good (just not HDR). That was for the old 55 inch.

For the new 65 inch, it's a lot better since it's pretty much new and updated. I actually got one that can read Dolby Video and HDR format directly off a usb drive and it plays anything I throw at it in true HDR. The colors do pop and look very vibrant. Only reason I still prefer to feed video from my PC is because my PC is set with proper volume normalization where the tv (any tv for that matter) will have video sound go from normal to almost deafening so I have to constantly adjust the volume.

So anyways, I'll just leave that for now. Bottom line is for the price Hisense isn't bad, but just be aware that for that price you probably will see some quirks here and there but maybe not dealbreakers. I haven't experimented with too many high end tvs to compare if quirks also exist on those.

Edit: If you have any other questions specifically let me know and I can see if I can answer them using the tvs I have.

I think its safe to assume that any 4K tv is going to be better than a 10 year old 720p tv. Hisense has become a pretty established brand and Amazon has a fairly liberal return policy so I don't see much risk in trying it out.

I just bought my mum a Hisense QLED as her LG developed a backlight fault, Picture quality wise it's just as good as my Samsung although I can't comment on the smart features, but from what I've seen there isn't much difference.

Like all brands Hisense has budget tvs and hgher end tvs. Their U8H series was one of the best rated tvs of 2022 competing with Sony, Samasung, etc at 1/2 to 1/3 the cost. Like everything else do some research and make an informed choice.

I have the Hisense 65 Inch Smart 4K UHD HDR QLED TV and use it for gaming, I seriously cannot fault it, has G-Sync, HDMI 2.1 120Hz, game mode and for my soundbar Dolby Vision . Atmos, For me it was well worth the purchase..!

We have an Element going on 7 years old now lol. It still functions the same as it ever has. Unfortunately the UI on it has always looked like absolute trash. Looks low budget and feels low budget reflecting price. I still cheap out on tv's but not that cheap anymore. I can't warrant spending twice as much when I know I won't appreciate it twice as much.

So I'm guessing that a TV that begins resetting and struggling to do even that, attempting over and over is dying?

I also notice flesh tones showing as an ugly rotten green color (almost zombie like) for shows/movies that have nothing to do with zombies.

Lol yea sorry. Easy typo

TCL SmartTV
Plenty of good built in android stuff.
Decent brightness and picture quality for the pricing.

The OSes available now make a huge different to the appeal of lower tier/brand tvs. Before the UI on those lower budget tvs looked like yuck. But with those oses even low quality tvs look very polished.
