Steam Deck with Windows Mixed Reality Glasses as Monitor
Hey Guys,

I am currently looking into using a Rokid or Nreal Air as a bedtime display. But then I remembered that I have pretty much unused Windows Mixed Reality Glasses (the likes of Medion X1000 or Lenovo Explorer) laying around and I wondered if anyone ever tried using those.
Of course for VR they are suitable, but the Deck is on the low power side of VR. But I don't want to use it as a VR display, I want to use it as a head mounted monitor just as the Rokid or Nreal Air are.
Did anyone try that? What would be necessary for it to work? USB-C to HDMI and some kind of SW to clone the display from right to left eye? What would I see if just plugged in with one of those HDMI adapters (don't have one on hand so just testing myself is not possible right now)? Just one eye or two monitors as output devices in Arch Linux?

Sorry for the questions, but I am curious. Could be an interessting application for the VR headsets, I never understood why Windows didn't allow that and always made a seperate very wonky app necessary.

Thanks in advance,
Hermelin

I forgot that I have the Acefast USB2HDMI Charging Adapter and tried it with the Medion Erazer X1000.
So as expected in gaming mode the deck treats the WMR as a gigantic monitor (probably 32:9 and steam deck display is off) and left eye gets the left half of the interface and right eye gets right half.
But when I switch to desktop mode the WMR no longer is detected. The headset screen turns off, the Steam Deck screen is on and in settings I only see the 800p Display of the deck. With TVs the charging adapter with HDMI works flawlessly.
Restarting the Deck didn't help.
I am lost.
So what I need is:
A) how to access the display settings for the WMR under Desktop mode
B) SW to map the display output to part of the monitor (clone from left to right part of the WMR and maybe restrict it to the central 2*720p part of the 2*1080p WMR)

Addendum: the WMR has 2*1440*1440 pixel Display. For viewing YouTube or videos the central 2*1280*720 pixel would be perfect and black borders would be helpful.
