I'm haven't really kept track of prices recently but I would say maybe try to get the best GPU you can find at around $1,000 give or take.
You should be able to get decent components for the rest of your system with the remaining budget. I would focus on keeping that fine balance between getting the best CPU without skimping on other components such as the Mobo, PSU, Memory, etc.
No. I don't live near one
You could lower the cost by all around changing out parts. Those are all pretty much high end parts.
At your budget, probably an RX 7900xt like emoticorpse suggested. Maybe have a look and see if you can find any good deals on the high end RTX 3000 series cards.
The GPU market just feels pretty rough right now, makes me feel lucky I managed to get an MSRP 3080 fe back in 2021.

7900 XT (Black)

And to think nVidia had originally wanted to sell this as a tier higher card as the RTX 4080 12GB (Fake Edition) at 100USD more (899USD).....
Boycott Nvidia and buy the 7900xtx or dont buy anything. Nvidia smell desperation and dont want you to buy anything but the 3080 and 4090... They are desperate to sell the mountain of 3080 cards they thought miners would buy. Disgusting company!
Now the 7600 and 7800 look promising but not sure how well those will do 1440p 21:9 or 2160p or what the prices will be yet.
Fairly happy with my EVGA 3080 Ti that I got at MicroCenter near launch at $1399. Nvidia FE ones were 1299 but couldn't find those anywhere as they appeared to sell out as soon as they were ready to order online.
During November and especially Black Friday all through the week to follow (Cyber Week) places like Amazon had 3060 Ti for 399 and 3070 Ti for 599
But yes many of the current prices are terrible and don't make much sense. It's how it goes sometimes.
Nvidia is already about to announce RTX 50 series so I'm not touching RTX 40 series. 3080 Ti does very well even at 2160p
Source for 50 series? Thats normally two years from the 40 series. Im expecting a price cut and dp 2.1 revision unless they plan to call that the 50 series... I dont expect 50 series until September 2024 and Sept 2023 the 4000 Ti models like 4090ti.
