Win7 to Win10 headaches
I went to DL Win10, but the media creation tool gives me this message.

We're not sure what happened, but we we're unable to run this tool on your PC. If you continue experiencing problems, reference the error code when contacting support. Error cod: 0x80072F8F - 0x20000

I even bought Win10 from Newegg, but all they gave me was a #. : / I wish I bought a hard copy now. Supposedly if I could dl and abstract a Win10_21H2 English x64 file then the error will go away. Supposedly a PC running Win10 can dl it. Idk, seems like a need a hard copy just to install it. Any ideals. I bought a 64GB Flash drive and when I was trying to make a ISO file, but it spit it the DVD out saying not large enough. 4.7 Gbs. That's even if it was the right thing.

Oh yeah on the Win10 page it says you might need dual layer. Nice to know if I end up making a disk.

Oh that looks good. I'll have to check it out. I'm dl Win10_21H2 English x64 now, hoping that will lead somewhere.

I want to also thank this post for a totally unrelated reason, as I THINK it answers something for me.

Off topic, but said situation is I got an email from Microsoft saying they were "Disabling TLS 1.0/1.1 for POP3 and IMAP4 on December 01, 2022" and that they were emailing me that notice because "Our records show that your email account has recently been accessed with POP3/IMAP4 through TLS 1.0 or 1.1." At first I thought Thunderbird was just using an outdated setting, but it wasn't, and I was still able to access my email after that date. I did, however, access my mail on a Windows 7 PC sometime around then, when I had my main PC out of use due to issues. If the information in that link about Windows 7 using TLS 1.0 is correct, it answers why I got that e-mail.

Windows 10 no longer has a direct ISO download other than by using the Media Creation Tool: https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10

The website does have the option to download an ISO but it agressively redirects you to the Media Creation Tool download page if it detects you are running Windows. If you spoof the user agent to macOS or Linux it will offer an ISO download instead.

I also got the error code issue so I did something like the following and I got the Win10 ISO file:

https://www.majorgeeks.com/content/page/how_to_download_the_latest_windows_10_iso_images_directly_in_google_chrome.html

After receiving the ISO file I used Rufus software to create a bootable USB drive,

then I entered BIOS to make the USB drive the first boot device.

Over the last few days!! I updated a windows7 64bit computer to win 10 and a windows XP 32bit computer to windows 10.

Good thing you moved on when you did. Windows 7 (and 8 if anyone really cares) stops getting crucial security updates in one short week. :steamhappy:

Glad that you were able to update to 10 successfully. :steamhappy:

Thanks. Yeah to busy to post playing 2042. I reinstalled Win7 thinking it would help, but it didn’t. I had to get updates and keep my fingers cross just getting windows functioning and to make updates. I wanted to put Win10 on another partition, but couldn’t seem to do it. Oh well, Win10 isn’t to bad, besides not being able to find anything.
