I would say just get RTX 3060 Ti and avoid stepping into this freaking mess with high-end GPUs currently.

Honestly, no. There is only a single GPU from NV right now that actually has "value" and that is the 4090, anything outside of that is litterally wasted money unless you are someone who specifically *makes* money using CUDA dependent code.

Otherwise you are better off looking at an RX Radeon.

For the cost of the average 3060ti (~$450) you could look at a 6750xt...

Buying NV right now is like buying a set of Nike's. You pay for the name. Period.

If you want to spend the same amount for a card thats on average over 20FPS slower just because of the name, then go for it! Otherwise look at some nice 6750 offerings ;) As someone with a 6500xt, 6800, and 6900xt, I can assure you that you likely wont be disappointing in the AMD cards if you give them a try.

depends on what resolution your monitor is and if you want to run games at max details

3060 Ti and 3080 aren't terrible, but they're often beaten by price/performance by competing Radeon GPUs.

However, if you want the best raytracing performance, your best bet is to go for a 4080 or 4090. AMD still doesn't compare in RT because their best only trades blows with the 3090 Ti, which is obviously still quite a bit slower than 4080 and 4090.

If you want the best price/performance, AMD Radeon is the better choice, but the driver software will be a stark change from what you're used to, and there's more bugs and issues on average, which is why a lot of users still stay away from Radeon, much to the chagrin of die-hard fans.

If you're on a 1080p 60Hz display and don't want to upgrade right now, then anything more than an RX 6600, RTX 2060, or 3060 would be a complete waste on that panel.

GTX 780 ti is on par with GTX 1650 notebook ! So anything like RX 6600 (87+% faster ) or RTX 2060 (68+% faster ) and faster , would provide huge 3D performance uplift .

edit
according to 3DMark , both RX 6600 and RTX 2060 are over 2x faster than GTX 780ti . i cited above Techpowerup

Between the RX 6600 and the RTX 2060, get the former unless the latter can be gotten at a deep discounted price.....like 150USD and below. Did a quick check with Amazon US, and no dice, cheapest at a quick glance is the Asus RTX 2060 6GB Phoenix Fan Edition at ~230USD, which is stupid for such an older card!
https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-GeForce-Phoenix-Graphics-Ph-RTX2060-6G/dp/B081QVXLF4/ref=sr_1_6?crid=D8WXIUA1KRRA&keywords=rtx+2060&qid=1672148352&sprefix=%2Caps%2C83&sr=8-6

Look at this PowerColor (a respectable exclusive AMD AIB) Hellhound RX 6600 at 210USD
https://www.amazon.com/PowerColor-Renewed-Hellhound-Radeon-Graphics/dp/B0B49GWKX6/ref=sr_1_59?crid=3IDVAB5FVBIT0&keywords=rx+6600&qid=1672148110&sprefix=rx+6600%2Caps%2C117&sr=8-59

Spanks the RTX 2060 silly, more VRAM to boot (has 8GB vs 6GB on RTX 2060), good driver support from AMD, I'm using an RX 6900 XT and other than an issue with vid playback on Google tab (which has apparently been resolved), I've had no issue running games with that awesome card.

So, unless the GPU is needed for other jobs, like productivity suites that requires the CUDA cores, then the RX 6600 is the smarter choice for a gamer.....with this budget in mind.

IME NVIDIA was king until about the 900 generation then dropped significantly in all departments. If you just go with the old wisdom I suggest to re-evaluate. And will probably find out amd became a way better way to go unless you struggle with narrow hw compatibility lists.

My impression is that everybody loaths the 4000 series and if go with the brand look for 3000 cards. Also you might consider used GPUs. It's certainly risk but there is way to manage that.
Now is the perfect time to waste your money on a GPU. You can waste it on amd and skip out on ray tracing or waste it on nvidia and get an overpriced piece of garbage!

Ahh, the freedom of choice!

bottom line, you need a card and i see alot of bang for buck nonsense here.heres the skinny
500-800 is not allot of money over 2-4 years a mere drop in the bucket.get something thats going to take your gaming to that next level.i would get the best card you can get and get that hardware you have breathing.im a nvidia fan so i recommend at least a 3070.but if need be a 3060ti could work. it would be nice if cards were cheaper but theyre not .good luck.

ive seen brand new RTX 3090 for 900-1000 (at least 750-850 PSU needed)

And even 4GB cards are getting rather iffy already.

agree !

At this point, you really shouldn't be buying GPUs that offer less than 6GB, unless you're getting a significant discount on a 4GB card like a 1650-Super.
