Don't remember what board I used for Celeron 300-a, thought it was Abit.(edit: Abit BH6 sounds right heh)
Abit Kt7-a with AMDs thunder bird 1ghz @ 1.2ghz
and something else I can't remember...
I think the thunder bird was the one you had to use defroster paint or pencil to unlock the multiplier, tho oc was pretty basic at that point. heh.
After that it's been all Asus boards. Think I even had a couple Asus gfx cards before Evga came along.
I miss Abit.
Runs an MMX 233, S3 ViRGE, and 256MB (chipset limited on a single 512MB stick) of SD-Ram :)
Great older machine, runs dual boot 98SE and XP
I had a S3 Virge and a Rendition Verite, not sure if either of those are around but I think I remember killing one by oc'ing it aggressively for fun. heh. Original computer, an IBM had ATI Rage II integrated gfx, but that was soon replaced with the voodoo.
I still have most of the notable things, dunno if they work tho.
Diamond Monster Voodoo 3d (3dfx voodoo 1)
Nvidia TNT (forget what brand that was..)
Diamond Viper v770 (Nvidia TNT 2 Utlra) (also has a Tennmax Lasagna cooler on it)
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro (this died needlessly, but I found another, dunno if it works)
and then Geforces of varying kinds. One has 3d shutter glasses I never used cuz never had a good enough monitor. Most still have that new card smell. :)
huh that's weird. Everyone I knew used them, and no one had any problems. That was a considerable amount of people back then too. IRC room stuffed full of clan members and groupies. lol.
My Maximus Formula and P8Z68-V Pro had zero issues and the latter was in heavy use for almost a decade. So they definitely lasted.
My current one has been having some issues almost since I got it, so it's not even great while it lasts. On the (non-literal) eve of reaching out to Asus support and maybe seeking an RMA, the issue just... goes away. Super frustrating. I have no doubt it'll return at some point, likely after warranty is up which will be next summer.
I had a Strix Z490-E before this. It was pretty solid except for the realtek "app/driver" part of it.
I was expecting at least the same this time around.
This is why i boycott Asus, And boycott MSI due to a few issues. And i boycott Intel due to all the years of needless socket changes. You live and learn.
I think I did try a Gigabyte board at one point, or it may have been a gpu, or both, but I think it ended badly, but can't remember why. lol. My 4090 is a Gigabyte and it seems good, tho their software is...ehhh but I only run that for few reasons anyway. Was sort of forced into it, but I'm not regretting it so far. It runs cooler than my 2080 super. lol.
Never had a problem with MSI but they never really impressed me either, just a good low tier option. Not sure if I ever bought any of their stuff.
The majority of it has been Asus and Evga with Intel and Nvidia. And then there were three...
Dunno...are Evga mobo's any good? I should probably start digesting reviews...again.
First topic I tried was latest Bios and I see 4 comment boxes but no text. Checked other threads and see text fine it's only the latest Bios one I can't see comment of. I even commented in it pointing that out and I can't even see my own comment, trying to edit it = blank comment
Strange, but thx for headsup. Looks like tons of message body content went *poof*. Ugh guess it will be awhile yet.
edit: actually the main site seems hosed too now. I click on Support for the driver/firmware page and it clicks back out. lol. Nioce.
My Asus x99 Deluxe killed 3 i7 5820k's, 2 of which were bone stock, Killed a cheap 12 core Xeon I bought off ebay as well, Intel had no trouble replacing the first 2 CPU's, 3rd one was the end of the line. But after 2 deaths of 5820k's I setup an RMA to replace the board or fix it, They tested the board, updated the bios, said nothing was wrong with it, the 3rd 5820k bit the bullet I contacted Asus again, sent the board back to them, they shipped it back, didn't even open the package and shipped it back to me and said they did a a bunch of tests and it was fine.
Whatever, I couldn't replace the CPU again so I bought a 12 core Xeon off ebay, it worked for a month, and nothing at all, one day it was just dead, could not get life out of it, not even a code.
I bought a EVGA x99 Classified off a friend, tried my xeon, it was dead, tried the 5820k, it was dead, So I bought a 5960x and its been good for the last 4 years with the same ram, PSU, case, SSD's GPU's.
I moved to a Threadripper 1950x Machine, Asus x399 Zenith Extreme, one day it just wouldn't power on, all the RGB stuff worked, but it just didn't respond to the power button the case, nor the button the board its self, or even jumping the pins, it wouldn't even respond to a bios flashback steps, I setup an RMA, they tested it, board tested good, of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ course they'd say that, I get the board back and same thing, nothing at all, tried different PSU's RAM, tried a 1920x. Sent it back and this time they replaced it, and all went well after that, system worked fine.
Right now Im on a Asus x570 board, got it at a good price, if it dies, Im throwing this thing out the door like Frisbee, I got a MSI x570 board I bought on marketplace I kept for myself just in case.
Yeah im not a huge fan of Asus, they will not treat you good unless you are a youtuber with a following, they will spit shine Linus or Jayz's shoes in heart beat if it came down to that.
Guess we will see where the money ends up.
