only the launch xb1 needs the dongle, the ones where the face covers the xbox button will work with bt
1. Steam Controller
2. PS5 controller
3. Xbox controller
The reason I have Xbox last is it doesn't have gyro or trackpads. Gyro is becoming increasingly important for first person shooters. It's much better for aiming than a stick alone. It's also useful for flight sims and racing games.
Steam Controller's trackpads can be used as a mouse. PS5 trackpads aren't as good for mouse, but are still very good for touch menus.
In terms of quality, the Steam Controller doesn't feel as premium as a Playstation or Xbox Controller. But mine is 7 years old and still works, so it's durable.
With the PS5 controller connected via bluetooth, you do not feel haptic feedback on the buttons or the adaptive resistance in the triggers like you'd feel on the Playstation. No audio through the speaker either.
The big advantage of the Xbox controller is it works without tinkering with the controls and on screen button prompts match the controller. With the DualSense controller, you'll often get Xbox button prompts instead of the Playstation ones.
Steam Controller does not have a right stick so that may be an issue for you. It also has a steeper learning curve than the other two controllers. It may be a better option if you already own one of the other controllers.
Just use an Xbox 1/x controller with the wire connected, simple and you don't have to worry about batteries or bluetooth connectivity.
My only issue with Steam controller is that, it is not good for all the games.
Best controller I've ever owned is the Xbox Elite Series 2, monster battery life, incredibly premium controller, charging case, optional components, high customisation, if you can afford it, get it. Straight up one of the better tech devices I've ever owned.
Very disappointed in Sony, they didn't learn lessons from the PS4 controllers in terms of battery life. The Elite Series just dabs on anything out there.
I couldn't test the bluetooth as my pc doesn't have and the dongle i use is not that good in general but never had any issue with cable. been using for years
I like the idea of the Steam controller but it's just too different. I have two of them, and while it's good overall I'm never entirely comfortable with it.
PS4 or PS5 is fine, on a Playstation. Not many PC games support the button prompts.
Switch Pro controller is OK, but something feels off about the spacing and size of the face buttons, not to mention the complete lack of analog triggers. For PC gaming the problem is the same as Playstation. Wrong button prompts most of the time.
