Slow downloads fast speed test (brand new pc)

Just got my pc built and the downloads are going so slow. I get 500+ on speed tests but downloading a 50gb game says 10 hours. Any idea what my issue could be/

ISPs detect when speed test services are accessed and adjust traffic to throw it off.

You'd get better readings with ping and Zenmap.

Try experimenting with different download regions until you find one that is faster. It's a bit tedious because it requires steam to restart every time you change one but that's what I did until I found a super fast one.

It's based on your PCs ability to unpack and install files as they are downloaded. it doesn't have anything to do with download speed but more your PCs CPU, RAM and storage capabilities.

if its slowish for steam game installs change steam region
steam -> settings -> downloads -> region

but steam does not just download and dump like speedtests do
it downloads, unpacks, copies, files at the same time
if the disk line on the download graph is high, thats the limiting factor

I've tried to change regions with no improvement. It does seem to be going a little faster now (just a little) so i hope it's just steam right now

just tried . it s not Steam , My speed is 240Mbit/s download now

if Windows is doing maintenance right now , could happen .

I seen something earlier on my system called dragontek bandwith control or some like that. I think that may be my problem but i dont know how to open it, and not sure if its safe to delete. I guess it comes with gigabyte boards

It s a startup program . Might disable it temporarily just for troubleshooting .

It sounds like you got a bloated pre-built pc with junk software installed. You're going to want to make a bootable usb flash drive with a fresh windows 11 iso on it, so you can wipe that mess and put a clean windows on there.

I would NOT trust the software on those pre-built PCs. They come with junk like ant-virus and game boosters and other worthless shovelware. You need to reformat and install windows the way it was meant to be - bloat-free!

You want the ssd with ONLY windows and programs on it. Then you want bulk storage for games and apps. This way if something ever happens to windows where it needs a reinstall you don't lose your bulk data.

I built it myself. i just put fresh windows on it this afternoon

I found my problem, it was that stupid bandwith controller, it had steam at the lowest priority. What a stupid software.

So where did this dragontek come from then? That sounds like shovelware. Just install drivers, that's it. No other software, even their free crap. No overlays, no updaters, no ant-virus. All of it garbage!

No clue, I didn't know how to set up the bios and stuff so I had a friend help me. My guess is it came about somewhere around that time lol
