Things to look for when buying a gaming Monitor?
So basically i was using my tv to game on my pc and my PS4. Its pixels are finally giving up (5 and a half years) and i think it's time to get a new gaming monitor, prefably with higher refresh rate. What are things to look out for? Gonna use For both pc and PS4... My use is watching anime/movies and casual gaming.
Edit: Already got the monitor (BENQ EX2510S)

1.budget
2.you need to decide on the diagonal
3.will iron pull?
Depends on your PC specs what resolution and refresh rate it can run comfortably.

what do you mean by 'its pixels are finally giving up'?
5 years is way too short for any panel to go bad

res, size, refresh rate, gsync/freesync, panel type

20-24in is good for 1080p
27-32 for 1440p
40-45 for 4k

any with refresh higher than 120hz make sure it supports freesync/gsync

current oled will have burn issues in the future, if you plan on a new monitor every year or two go ahead
but a lcd panel will last 10+ years with no burn
32" 1440p is ideal for day-to-day computer work and casual gaming.

I've an AOC and a MSI and both are good.

Sites like https://www.displayninja.com/ are helpful but you need to check reviews and specifications carefully before buying.

Best of luck, there's loads to choose from.

He means is your hardware good enough.

At this price range you would be looking for 24" 144 Hz+ IPS panel.
Something like AOC 24G2SP, LG 24GN650-B or MSI Optix G242P.

I don't think the refresh rate is that important. Everyone makes a big deal about the refresh rate on the Valve Index being 144 hz compared to other VR headsets having like 90 hz. I tried both modes and didn't notice a difference.

However, I have tried a couple typical "gaming" monitors... a 48" 4K OLED and a 35" ultrawide 3440x1440 curved monitor, and trying them both definitely solidified my opinions about what I want in an ideal display.

I really like the ultrawide for gaming because in addition to filling more of your peripheral vision to the sides which shows you more of the landscape in a game.... with the curve, you can sit very close to it without having the corners of the screens look noticeably further away from you relative to what you see in the center, which is far more immersive. And when you sit closer to it like that, the screen fills more of your field of view, which is also very immersive. And you see more of the landscape to each side of you in the game, which is also immersive.

However, the OLED is really outstanding for the color quality, particularly because it's glossy and not matte like the ultrawide. Glossy monitors have colors that really "pop" when you're using them in a dark room, and when you combine that with OLED you get a really outstanding experience.

It's like if you took two pairs of clothes... one brand new and unwashed, and the other has been washed like 10,000 times. Sure they still kinda look like the same clothes, but the one that is brand new has really eye-poppingly rich colors. That's what it's like to play on an OLED in the dark. The clothes that have been washed repeatedly has "washed out" colors, and that's what it's like to play games on the monitor that isn't OLED.

TLDR; my ideal gaming monitor is:
*ultrawide
*curved
*OLED
*Glossy, not matte
*Used in a dark room to avoid light glare from glossy display

The ideal movie/tv watching monitor is exactly as above but:
*4K rather than ultrawide, so more of the screen is filled with your movie/tv image without stretching

With that budget I would get a 27" monitor. Especially for media, size is important. In fact I think it's more important than resolution. You don't want to go for ultra-wide, they are hopeless below 34". If you are in a dark room go for VA, if you are in a lighter room go for IPS. Don't bother with curved, it's pointless for 27". I wouldn't spend all your money on a high refresh rate, 90Hz will be enough. Whether you go for 1920x1080 or 2560x1440 depends on your graphics card. Remember that the higher the resolution the lower fps you will get.

As an example go to Newegg>Computer Peripherals>Gaming Monitors>Scroll down to Price>tick the box $100-$200 or tick the blank box and enter $150-$200>hit Apply>Now you have some monitors to look at in your price range>research the ones you're interested in>buy one you like>profit. :steamhappy:
Whatever you buy it should have at least 1x HDMI + 1x DP.
Use the DP to PC and use the HDMI for any Game Consoles such as Xbox, PS4, etc.

Why DP?

dp is much better than hdmi
hdmi natively overscans
dp has clips to prevent it from being easily unplugged, and prevent bent pins in the ports

get a display that supports freesync/gsync

I already got a Monitor BenQ EX2510S, currently only hdmi as of now, shall I get DP? will have to get an adapter for it (no thunderbolt in laptop sadly)

1 buy oled
2 purchase oled
3 get oled
With BenQ you are just using HDMI and having the Monitor do an internal flicker-free method. Just not the same benefits as actually using GSync or FreeSync Premium via DP

Every PC Gamer honestly should be using a Display with DP and high refresh rate if they can afford to.
