SN750 500GB or 970 EVO PLUS 500GB

Which one should I get? Which one is better, more durable and will serve me better in general. I am using mainly for gaming because I have HDD and everything loads slow and stutters hard. My motherboard is B450 Tomahawk Max 2.

I'd go with the Samsung because I don't like WD. I know that's a personal bias I have that you don't have much reason to follow, so my advice is if you're fine with either brand go with which one is cheaper. If they're same price I'd probably still go with the 970 if I wasn't biased.

I have actually used both as boot drives: the 970 EVO plus is still in service to this day. It's been the more durable one for me over the Western Digital black, going by the Health check over time. The 970 is still at 100% Health versus 98% Health for the WD, under very similar circumstances.

It's also been slightly more expensive for me, but I considered it worth the small increase.

Both are good drives. But if I had to choose, based on my good experiences, it's the 970 EVO plus. Someone else's experiences may differ due to differing use cases, hardware, etc.

I use a 1TB Samsung 980 (non Pro) and it has been fine.

Better to use cheap 1 TB like Crucial P3, still decent quality and speed and you get twice the storage for basically same money.

You mean DRAM cache on SSDs?
SSDs with DRAM cache are generally better and faster as boot drives.
As secondary SSD for gaming for instance it doesn`t really matter that much if it has DRAM cache or not.
To most people with budget builds it doesn`t really matter even as a boot drive, DRAM-less NVMe SSD is still tons faster then HDD and faster then SATA SSD.

Get two SSDs. One for OS + Apps, one for Games.
Then you can move all your games to the larger Games SSD to free up HDD space, then once freed up enough space on the HDD, clone the HDD w/ OS to the new smaller SSD that you'll use for OS + Apps. Once done you can wipe that HDD clean and use for downloads, personal files, music, videos, pictures; etc.

I'd look at...

i am thinking about getting Silicon Power A55/60 1 or 2TB ssd . 1TB for 50 bucks

I cant get it now because here it is Winter and electricity bills will be high . And i want 2TB .

if i had to choose between Samsung and WD , my choice would be Samsung . These guys know much and make great products .

They're not directly comparable. The Western Digital Blue SN5x0 are DRAM-less drives. They are typically very good values and offer nice performance despite that fact, but the Samsung 970 Evo is probably a small step above. The Samsung 980 is what is more comparable to those Western Digital drives, and that point, the Western Digital is probably cheaper and a better option.

Edit: My apologies! The SN750 is the initial Black drive. I'm used to seeing "not SN850" and presuming Blue, since they are usually SN550 or SN570.

Since it's the SN750, that's probably more comparable to the Samsung (probably falls between the vanilla 970 and Pro IIRC but I might be wrong). The SN750 was sliiightly disappointing (the SN850 is a phenomenal drive though) but it was still an okay drive if you found it priced right (it often wasn't).

If it's a similar price, flip a coin? You're honestly unlikely to even notice between the two so go with the cheaper one, and if you're after high performance, you wouldn't be looking at either of them I imagine.

Close performance to a 970 EVO PLUS but yet more energy efficient and less heat, great for laptop's or small form factors builds and such.

read some reviews that 970 tend to be way hotter than 750, i have the 750, never exceeds 53 celcius

If the board comes with an M.2 heat sink, I would use it. My ASUS one reduces the heat of the nvm-e by 7-8 deg C. So, it idles in the very low 30s and has never gone above low 40s C.

Out of curiosity, are you often pushing the drive with high loads? Or is it more for general use/games? Most M2 SSDs don't "need" the heatsink, especially for use patterns of the latter, so if you're not pushing it and have a heatsink on it, I can see it staying cool. Still, those temperatures seem pretty low for an M2 drive and almost match what my SATA SSD runs at.

Save up for the 1TB at the LEAST
Both are good brands though, going with the Samsung you can use their tool to migrate your OS to the new drive. Got a 1TB Samsung SSD few months ago and migrating my OS to the new drive was flawless.

Just dont forget to disconnect the old drive when done.
