Overall, below 200 it's not really worth it to look at 5.1 or 7.1 Surround Speakers... go with studio quality headphones instead. Some really good German brands for those for under around 100-200
I'm using Logitech Z906 for a couple years too. It is THX certfied.
It seems over budget of OP. But for 5.1ch, I think it's reasonable price.
If there's not good product in the OP's budget range. OP may need raise budget for 5.1ch or change target to 2.1ch.
Get a 5.1 receiver and speakers. I recommend partsexpress.com. You can probably find a decent 5.1 receiver for around $150-200.
I got decent MTM surrounds for $15 a speaker from there. I use one of them as center channel too. Then I have front channel Sony tower speakers I got for $40 at a pawn shop over 10 years ago. But you can get decent brand new towers for around $100 from parts express.
They also have a large selection of powered subwoofers starting pretty cheap, and also kits to build your own. I built my own enclosure for a 12" and powered it with a BASH 500-S amp which was more expensive than it should be. But there's cheaper sub amps you can choose from. I just wanted a lot of power.
So about $500 and you got a good system you can upgrade any part of in the future and will be far more configurable than any of those crappy home theatres in a box or soundbars or the junky cheap PC surround systems. Oh, and it will sound 100x better too.
Oh and you could definitely get by without a subwoofer depending what front channel speakers you get. If you get towers they usually have great bass by themselves, but if you get monitors or bookshelfs you probably want a sub.
