I never activated windows on my old build. Can't do the same on my new build?
So my new pc is built. The only thing I am confused about is how to install windows on my new pc. I thought I could just create the bootable usb with the windows 10 media creation tool on it.
But it doesn't work. I just get to a screen with a conpability report error. That says the upgrade option isn't available to you.

Is it a prebuilt PC you're currently using? The Media Creation Tool may refuse to work with OEM Windows versions.

Windows 10 is stopping support soon. Try putting Windows 11 in. go into bios settings and check where it is set to boot from. the order of who goes first in boot up. Make sure the new PC is recognizing the systems components on startup. Yea you can load it from USB just make sure it boots from the Flashdrive for the install and the hard drive/SSD as second. once windows is installed change it back to the hard drive/SSD as the primary boot method. You may even want to run the Windows11 built in systems pre check first. Make sure all your new PC componants will work correctly. Go into Bios and make sure TPM is turned on prior to Windows 11 install. Let windows install all updates as it goes. Install your anti-virus app dead last after you put windows in. If you get stuck, look for Bad Motha. He is one of many who can help you.

I think you need the UEFI only installer, the media tool created it for both legacy and uefi - use Rufus per below

So my main problem is. My nvme drive is not being detected when going through the windows 10 set up. I installed a driver from intel called f6fply_x64vmd. And my drive still doesn't show up.
Under my bios. The storage is listed as Raid:ssd970 evo & USB: Generic Mass Storage. Boot priority is UEFI Generic Mass Storage. Not really sure where to go from here. The board is Z790. I haven't updated the bios yet.

Are you sure you created the boot drive properly? If you're doing a clean install of windows unless I'm mistaken you shouldn't get an error about an upgrade. Your USB stick has a minimum of 8GB of free space on it?

Go half way down the page to the section that says "Create an installation media or download ISO file" and follow the instructions.

Download MS Media Creation Tool from Official MS Win10 website where it says "Download Tool Now"; download it to somewhere on C Drive of current PC you wish to make the USB Media on first of all. Insert USB Flash Drive you wish to have wiped clean. Run the MCT via Run As Admin option. Select the USB option; Windows 10, English, 64bit.

The tool will download the ISO, make the USB bootable and extract the ISO contents to the USB.

When done it is ready to be used. Eject and remove the USB and then go boot to that USB on the PC you wish to install Win10 onto.

If the system is an OEM prebuilt Desktop or Laptop; such as from Dell, Alienware, HP, Lenovo... during install select Custom, then click "I do not have a key", then you should be presented with option for which OS Edition to install; i.e. Home, Pro, etc. Select the same edition that the OEM prebuild came with (Home vs Pro). Doing so will ensure the system gets auto-activated once inside the OS and connected to internet and it will retrieve the digital license from the MS servers.

If it's a custom built PC, then always install Pro Edition. You can use it freely until are able to get a product key for it. Product Key can be purchased online for rather cheap; around 5-10$
