Windows 10 is really slow, if Windows starts SLI is activated
Hi,
i've got a problem with Windows 10. But first my System-Configuration. So you know, my Hardware isn't the badest.
I7 4790k 4Ghz
ASUS Z97 AR-Mainboard
2 x 8GB RAM Crucial Ballistix Sports 1600Mhz CL9
1 x 240GB SSD for Windows
1 x 512GB SSD for Games and other stuff
2 x 4096MB KFA2 GeForce GTX 960 Gamer OC Mini Black Aktiv PCIe 3.0 x16 in SLI-Mode
Thermaltake 700W 80+ Certified

So. You will see, it's not the badest, i hope. In Games, all is ok. SLI will give full power.
If i am on Desktop, it's really slow. The Explorer is slow. Selecting of Data is slow(delay of 10s sometimes), opening the Taskbar is slow, and even opening of the Task-Manager is slow. I don't know why. But if i disable SLI, all is really fast. If i start Windows 10 without SLI and activate the SLI it will be fast until the next restart with SLI activated.

Anyone knows why? I have no Idea. A Reinstallation of Driver didn't help.

Have you tried disabling Windows Defenders realtime scanning and see if you have the same slowdowns?

Thermaltake is known for not having the best powersupplies, 700w is enough for that system sure, but the power draw could be having issues i suppose..

do you have FPS issues when gaming at all?

Is TRIM enabled for your SSD's?

What NVIDIA driver are you using?
JoeStarton Apr 13, 2016 @ 7:34am
I don't have any FPS issues at gaming. 3dMark says the Computer is better than 85% of all tested Computers. I'm using the actual NVIDIA Driver 364.72 WHQL. I've tested the power supply. It uses only 450W. I have used another power supply before and the Mainboard has shut down the PC, when an power issue occures. I Don't know what TRIM is. I will look for that in the evening. The Windows Defender is always deactivated on my System. The System is only slow, if it starts in SLI-Mode. If i activate the SLI-Mode, when Windows is already running, all is ok.

windows 10 automatically enables trim optimizaion for ssd hard drives..

since you stated the system is only slow if started in sli, but if activated after already started its fine suggests to me that its a driver issue/driver related sli issue with windows 10

How can i find that issue? I will try to install another driver.
Use ddu to unistall the driver and then reinstall the latest version I've never had a problem with SLI and Windows 10
you can try posting directly at nvidia forums since all members there presumably use nvidia gpu with perhaps a better percentage SLI set owners than steam forums.

Though, uninstall everything NVIDIA related first
Then run DDU and install the drivers using CUSTOM INSTALL and only selecting the Driver and PhysX, NOTHING Else unless specifically needed.

And yes older driver; such as 362.00 which are quite stable compared to newer ones.

As for Win10; it has always had an issue where "Fast Boot" is enabled; but this needs to be turned off, restart the system, then re-enable this feature. That should help overall.

It is still enabled on SSDs as well.

Definitely an option to turn off. Causes more trouble than it is worth.

Funny thing... Windows has it marked as "recommended". Ha.

Hibernation sucks and so does fast boot.

No; the issue is that it is always enabled by default for everyone. You need to disable it once u reach the Desktop after install. Install your needed Drivers (like Chipset and such) then reboot as needed. Then re-enable this Fast Startup option in Win10; then reboot once more.

Problem solved.

Fastboot is disabled. I never activated the Fastboot Mode. ASUS has an extra program to set the Boot Options. I installed the last 3 previous display driver as a reinstall. No change of that issue. But if it is the Fastboot, the issue must be there every time. But without SLI the issue isn't there...

Not the BIOS one, the OS one, which is always enabled by default in Win10.

Ah ok. I wrote with the NVIDIA Support now. I've done, what they said Uninstall with DDU and than reinstall the Driver. It won't help. Now i have to set up my pc...

I have this problem too, exactly.
