HTC vive info
Am thinking of getting the VR but info is hard to find. When you are using it to play a game , what happens to your PC screen/monitor, does it replicate the game? If your wearing the headset and you exit a game what do you then see inside the headset - will you see the desktop through it? I don't have a lot of room to move around in my study/spare room where PC is based, can the headset be used in conjunction with steam link so I can use it on our big plasma TV downstairs in living room? Sorry last question, do you have to have bang upto date gpu drivers - I have a nvidia 980ti but the drivers are from approx September 2015 - I don't like updating them unnecessarily as everything is super stable and I know many have problems with nvidia new driver releases (questionable QA from nvidia) so I would t update them unless there was an absolute compelling need, so will I be ok trying to use the HTC will gpu drivers that are a few months old?

There's a front-facing camera, which means the real world can be overlaid onto the virtual. I'm guessing when your game is over, it will show this or a menu.

Steam has "SteamVR" which gives you a game library menu, etc.

You can get a virtual desktop (separately) for viewing your entire Operating System:
http://store.steampowered.com/app/382110/

Nvidia drivers 364.72 and above are more VR Game Ready. VR games have been optimized more. It also has latest support for Nvidia VRWorks and enhancements for HTC Vive headset. VR SLI is also available - where 2x SLI Nvidia graphic cards can be used to individually generate each eye's image.

ps: Nvidia drivers are extremely stable and no issues with my GTX 980. Just note, download them from the offical website ( http://www.geforce.com/drivers ) manually. Right-click and select "Run as Administrator", then ensure security software or the Operating System isn't blocking it. Many issues occur due to GeForce Experience attempting to auto-update and Windows or the anti-virus scanner block that driver change for security protection, because it's detected other software attempting to modify your critical files.

HTC Vive is basically a one room show, unless you feel like moving the hardware around alot(which isnt recommended) you are restricted to the initial room.
2 room sensors have to be placed in the room that will be used for VR, 1 above 1 below, these detect your movements to make what happens in VR more accurate.

If you dont have enough room for these sensors then chances are Vive isnt for you, though they can be placed on bookshelves and the like, or even be placed on the walls.

Setup can take 30 mins at the least from what ive read.

Something smaller like the Oculus may be a better choice for you.

And going with VR it is recommended that you keep your GPU drivers up to date for best compatibility.
