New psu pc won't boot
Psu died on me a few days ago and I just installed a new one, when I attempt to boot I hear a tiny crackle but no boot. Ugh if anyone has any help to offer I'd greatly appreciate it

FX 8370 OC 4.3 ghz
Radeon R9 390 8gb sapphire nitro
2x8 gb hypercritical fury
Msi 970A-g46
Evga supernova 850 G2
2x1tb western digital hdd
Samsung 250gb ssd

Thanks in advance

Everything should be connected properly, the only slight problem was that the psu only had 2 cpu slots but graphics card required 2 on its own, so I connected one to vga instead, I suppose that the psu could just be incompatible despite what pcpartpicker says

im having trouble understanding this correctly but if you mean the 2 connectors for cpu they should not be used for pcie video card if thats where you put the 1 connector... a 1000w evga psu would surely have its own dedicated dual pci-e connectors use those
Not quite, I mean that the psu has two ports labeled as cpu 1, and cpu 2 (it's modular). Presumably for the actual cpu and gpu, however my gpu requires two cpu ports by itself so I used a vga port for one of the wires
the pin layout on the actual gpu and motherboard are different ex you cant plug in pci-e to mobo and cpu power plug to video card... the psu shows cpu1,2 vga1,2,3,4 so why do you need to use cpu port for the video card at all?? cpu1,2 is for mobo vga 1,2,3,4 is for vga card/s.. the modular cables for cpu power and vga (pcie) are different

that gpu is a beast at 275w and the cpu is slightly over 120w if the psu has owp or ocp (over current or over wattage) sensing for the ports its overloading on the cpu port sensing too much current/wattage since wattage=I x E (voltage times current).. ol contacts generally click when a circuit is overloaded.. ive heard it many times when dealing with allen bradley contacts driving ac motors.. might not be the issue but a strong possibility

edit: ive checked your power supply and the pin layout on the port and cable is different so you cannot use cpu for vga the power supply is OL if your doing that.. explains clicking

There is your problem. CPU power is for CPU only. Power for the GPU comes from VGA 1-6
CPU# is for the Motherboard (next to the CPU; i.e. EPS-12V)
VGA# is for any PCIE GPUs

Not to mention; they are all uniquely keyed at both ends.
i.e. CPU modular cable can not plug into GPU on PSU side; and also CPU can't plug into a GPU card. So IDK how anyone can get any of this wrong. It is designed to be dummy-proof.

Ok cool now we're making progress, so gpu should be plugged in to vga ports exclusively? And just leave that second could port empty? Am I correct?

What 2nd port are u talking about?

How do u not have all this working already; like what is the issue here?
A 10 yr old can do this.
His PSU has CPU1 and CPU2. Insulting him gets him nowhere.

@OP, Yes, the GPU should only be plugged into the VGA ports.
CPU #1 is all you need here; CPU#2 is not for your system.
GPU = using VGA#1 (and more if needed)

Not insulting anyone! This is as easy as this plug goes here; that plug goes there.
You can't get this wrong, cause the plugs can't go in the wrong one, so where is the issue?

Apparently they can.
Unless somehow forced; they are uniquely keyed, so technically they can not.

They use the same pentagon/square port layout and almost identical save for the metal pieces inside which are slightly different. In other words they do fit but as we seem to have discovered don't work
Then you need glasses, they are keyed differently! This was done on purpose so you can't plug "cpu cable" into "gpu psu slot" and you can't plug "cpu cable" into "dedicated gpu card"; etc...

You can see that here:

Again, please understand where they go; both the PSU side and cables are clearly labeled.

Doing this all under proper lighting; then u should not have any issues.

Ok so I plugged gpu into vga slots using vga cables that came with the psu, still clicking but now when I press the power button to hard drive light flashes on for a split second. Please advise

Nope sorry the gpu cord that came with the gpu is an exact match for the psu's cpu slot. And no they are no labeled gpu cords just 4 or five labeled as vga

And u plugged "CPU#1" from PSU into here?

Yes
