Black is only worth getting for storage over 1TB.
You really should look into getting an SSD. You'll never want to use an HDD again.
black has a 10yr warranty, vs 3-5yr on blue
get a 240+g ssd and a 2tb hdd
if you have a ssd for the os and common programs, a blue drive for games, movies ect.. will be fine
black is faster, but not nearly as fast as a ssd
I'm not looking to spend more than $75
For the 1TB, I am correct. Might want to look into how much is on a single platter. Many tests show the Blue drive clearly beating the Black drive.
Sure, warranty and all that jazz... But I'm talking about performance.
If you are suggesting a 2TB HDD, then yeah Black would be better... Which is exactly what I said.
thoser are under $70usd

I might just step up to the SSD world and get the Intel 535 Series 2.5" 240GB SATA III MLC .
I'm not sure I can use it to it's full potential on the MB I have currently though ? https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/M4A88TMUSB3/specifications/
the amd 880 chipset wasnt bad, it had a decent gpu at the time, but still no fx cpu support
Blue is a cheap consumer goods, modern Blue are NOT the ones that the first model under the same name - I have not seen any new Blue, who has lived more than 1-2 years
Forget about all the brands and models, that now only HGST and WD Black (Green for archives) - safely ignore the rest, the situation here is the same as processors and graphics cards AMD - yes they are cheap, and at first glance look the best value, but after the purchase you'll regret.
On the SATA interface, you will not see much difference on any drive model
high speed of Black balanced with double the cache buffer at the Green (and I do not see the point in SSD on such a machine, sorry)
theres not much of any performance difference between the black 7200rpm 64mb and the blue with same specs but the black has a good warranty
If you need 2TB or more, then definitely go for a WD Black. Simply because any Blue drive above 1TB is a 5400rpm model. You don't want those.
Note that the Black drives do come with a longer warranty if that matters to you.
I dunno, all I use is Blues anymore. Have some that are several years old. Haven't had one fail me yet. (knock on wood)
The 6TB black is fairly fast but probably out of your budget $300usd.
I've got a mix of Seagate/wd and really haven't had trouble with them, I've got 3x3TB M001 drives closing in on the 3yrs marker apparently they should've died in the 1st year according to some of the geniuses.
WD Green is trash imho, the Seagate 4TB 5900rpm M000 is much better than the greens.
Ps, _I_ is quoting that WD Blacks have 10 yr warranty this is wrong it's actually 5yr and it's been 5yrs for as long as I can remember and Blues are 2yr now.
