High Memory Usage
So i looked into task manager to make sure everything is low % on idle, and i see 50% memory! I have 10gb ram, but 2 different sticks. One is an 8gb the other is a 2gb. The 8gb is 1866mhz and the 2gb is 1333mhz (IK this will clock down the 8gb, i need 10gb so i have 8gb usable and the other 2 go to my apu.) Please help solve the high memory!

Hi,

I don't think the memory usage has anything to do with the different speeds of your ram, but for performance reasons you should really have two matching pairs of RAM of the same size, running at the same speed. But I think you know that already.

Windows will give itself more memory, depending on how much you have. I've got 8GB and Windows task manager reports utilising 40%. Do you having issues running games? What APU do you have?

I have no issues running games, just i have the fear i could be getting a bit more performance because of the ram usage being 50%. I have the A10-5800k with Radeon HD 7600d graphics running at 2gb vram (reason for me using 10gb)

Stick with the 8gb, its more than enough. Try take out the 2gb and check your memery usage
Fluffy 8 ABR 2016 a las 13:26
but when you mix 1866 and 1333 ram its all defaulting to 1333 at lowest timings of the 2 sticks... 10gb (8gb ram for system) is enough for that cpu even while gaming... but you have 1333mhz ram for apu ram so your memory bandwidth is 11gb/s and thats terrible.. thats assuming its dual channel if its not its even less.. this will reduce performance

Its not that i can just stick with the 8gb of ram, i have to go 10gb if i want 10gb usable. If i use 8gb only, i will only get 6gb ram usable.

Okay so now i think its a memory leak. My steam has lowered memory and it is still at 50%. here is a screenshot http://prntscr.com/apux9j

in addition to that 1x8gb stick will run in single channel and cripple the apu... if your going to use apu you need 2x1866+ ram otherwise you will lose performance

You might as well get the same RAM stick and swap the 2gb out. RAM is cheap what you got to lose?

Yeah its cheap, but $50? I could be saving up for a gpu instead. I've decided to go with the 1x8 gb stick. Its working fine. 20% memory at idle. Not bad. well, ofc with steam running. Steam uses alot of ram!

I'm only using 4gb of ram (2x2gb) but steam only taxes me 130,000k memory. My pc set-up is aproximately 5-6 years old and my gtx460 fried last week so I'm running it without the driver. ram is only ddr3 1333mhz with a i5 750 cpu.

clearly nothing to worry about with 8gb, maybe your set up prefers dual slotting? If you got a mate that would swap your 8gb with 4x4.
Its just awkward your your 2 rams, 2 different speeds and maybe cl.

oi! 4x4. I only have 2slots. I will see if i can get another 8gb ram, but i dont really need another 8gb. Maybe they sell 2gb 1866mhz on the market? Im not sure. I just need something to clear the reason for steam using alot of ram honestly haha

ALSO! I am ingame right now. CSGO using 500mb and steam using 400mb. I am using 40% however.

I know you do so just snap that 2gb in half please! (dont do that)
what i meant was 2x4gb ram and yes those will be sold still, try to match those rams if possible
