Skylake cpu's don't support 1.5v ram.
To sum this up, I've been told the memory controller is on the CPU itself not the motherboard.
Anyway, what RAM do they support in DDR3 ? Just the 1.3 ?
DDR4-1866/2133, DDR3L-1333/1600 @ 1.35V

You can google any intel cpu and it will show everything about it.
You can just go with g4400 for now, and later upgrade it to any other skylake cpu, as someone suggested already.

Would still be better than your current setup. And this one supports any skylake cpu (except k overclockable versions).
Got an ASUS idea in mind on the motherboard ?
I just picked the cheapest one. Asus seems to be more expensive. You can edit that partlist and see for yourself. It's the best site for building pc's, shows only compatible parts.

Well yeah, i5's are the best. But cost a lot.
Something like this would be ideal in my opinion, but more expensive:

Or this actually, skylake seems to cost about the same now:

Yeah that aint happening. I'm not really wanting to spend $200 even. About $150 wouldn't hurt much.. Till the Summer months when the light bill is another $150 itself.
You could re-use your current RAM with that. I llinked a MB+CPU earlier in the thread.
Yes, it is, i3-6100 is a very good budget gaming CPU if you can't afford an i5.
It's just the pure dual cores you want to avoid. But i3 is dual core with 2 virtual cores.
Better

I guess it's worth a shot then to go intel. I'm sure I'm going to have beg MS to give me my Windows 7 key back since it's OEM .
Best thing about intel is that you could upgrade to the very top if you really wanted and had the money. A board that supports g4400 would also support an i7-6700.
Well here is a compare of the Pentium G3258 versus a Athlon II x4 860K according to AMD:
http://www.amd.com/en-us/products/processors/desktop/athlon-cpu
I'd personally take the Athlon II x4 860K over any Pentium G including the 4400. It's about having 4 dedicated cores and more cache (4MB vs 3 or 3.5MB). However I'd also strongly suggest paying or saving up the extra $40~ to get a AMD FX 8300.
I posted sets for botht he Athlon 860K and the FX 8300 of CPU and motherboard earlier. If I remember right (they are on the first page) it was $125~ for the Athlon 860K and motherboard or $162~ for the FX 8300 and 970 chipset AM3+ motherboard. FX 8300 is worth it.
